Job Summary: The Oncology Infusion Pharmacy (OIP) is responsible for overseeing all chemotherapy\/medication procurement, storage and preparation as it pertains to the Cayuga Cancer Center clinic pharmacies. The OIP ensures that the Cayuga Cancer Center pharmacy provides optimal services; facilitates safe medication use, meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards as they pertain to all areas served by the Cayuga Cancer Center pharmacy.\n

Job Responsibilities include:\n\nEnforces policies and procedures that promote safe, appropriate, cost-effective chemotherapy\/medication use.\nManages all oncology pharmacy services staff in production of all types of admixtures, verifies accuracy of procedures, proper chemotherapy regimen interpretation, order validation, drug preparation and labeling.\nReviews, evaluates and advises on all physicians' medication orders for completeness and appropriateness prior to dispensing; consults with physicians and nurses to clarify orders as needed.\nDevelop medication protocols, order sets and perform medication utilization reviews and PI projects to optimize drug therapy utilization. \nAssist with the decision making process in the selection of appropriate evidence-based prophylaxis, chemotherapeutic, and supportive care regimens \nCollaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens.\nPlan for and assist in the treatment of chemotherapy spills, extravasation of vesicants and irritants, and management of hypersensitivity\/anaphylactic reactions.\nUnderstands the functions of each pharmacy information system and demonstrates an ability to effectively use each system. \nEnsures strict accountability of all medications (both controlled and non-controlled) dispensed to patients and automated dispensing cabinets.\nParticipate in department, site and institute multidisciplinary committees as assigned.\nMaintains competencies and requirements that support the Clinical Research Service of Cayuga Cancer Center\nCommunicates and collaborates with oncology pharmacy technicians, nursing staff, providers and other pharmacists, as is necessary to support the Clinical Research Service of Cayuga Cancer Center.\nIs flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above, such as IV Admixing.\n\n

Requirements:\n

Education - Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with either a BS pharmacy or PharmD required.\n

Experience - 3 years health system experienced preferred, with 1 year in oncology pharmacy practice preferred. Board Certification or PGY1\/PGY2 preferred.\n

Licensure - Currently licensed in the State of New York.\n

Physical Requirements - Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.\n\n= Essential functions\n\n
