Oncology Nurse Manager
Purpose: Responsible for supervisory functions, efficiency and overall flow of the RN Department while providing quality patient care for all cCARE South locations. Performs job duties and responsibilities in compliance with company policies and procedures. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required. Some travel is required for this role. Responsibilities/Essential Functions (other duties as assigned): Chemotherapy Drug Administration: Conducts accurate calculations, preparation, administration, documentation of chemotherapy medications. Accesses peripheral IV’s and VAD’s. Verifies lab values with guidelines for administering chemotherapy. Mixes in accordance to OSHA. Assesses patients prior to, during, and after infusions. Maintains chemotherapy protocols. Knowledge of infusion pump operation and maintenance. Facilitates dose modifications according to physician and protocol guidelines. Patient Care: Assesses patient for changes in conditions, including, but not limited to, abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reactions, and initiates appropriate action. Documents patient data, including, but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication and patient condition changes, patient teaching, medication administration via computer in patient’s electronic medical record. Maintains efficient patient flow through chemotherapy area. Triage patient phone calls as needed; documents relevant information in patient chart. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching. Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients. Manages patient medication refills and documents in chart. Maintains patient confidentiality. Additional Skills and Abilities: Maintains clean work environment. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Acts as resource to other medical and office staff. Follows OSHA guidelines for Chemotherapy agents, bio-hazardous waste, and any potential blood borne pathogens. Maintains knowledge of reimbursement procedures. Assures preauthorization, financial counseling, and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies. Completes charge encounters accurately. Creates Nursing schedules weekly and evaluates staffing requirements. Counsels RN/MA and Pharmacy staff regarding deficiencies or needed areas of improvement. Provides Clinical guidance, evaluates and assesses RN performance and educational opportunities. Audits RN/MA staff performance via retrospective chart audit. Audits Pharmacy tech via direct supervision of mixing, storage and inventory techniques. Participates in monthly Pyxis reconciliation and works to resolve discrepancies. Helps to run RN meetings. Creates written clinical protocols for RNs. Works as a liaison between physicians and RNs to assure clinical effectiveness. Creates and maintains orientation program for new RNs and MAs. Designated Super User for EMR; creates/adjusts/ maintains clinical templates, flowsheets, protocols, care plans, etc. Responsible for ongoing training of Clinical staff as it relates to EMR. Must be able to type and work on a computer. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians. Experience, Qualifications/Education: Education and/or Experience: 5 years chemotherapy administration experience preferred. Associate degree in nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. 2 years management experience preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have current RN license with the California State Board of Nursing. Current CPR certification required. OCN certification and ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Providers care required. Working Conditions: This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employee may be subject to blood borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste and other medically-related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels. Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time. Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions, and occasionally asked to work evening and weekends as needed. ​​​​​​​Salary: $115,507-$197,513
