Oncology Nurse Manager

Salary Range: $55.80 - $76.93

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:
•    This position reports to the Senior Director of Ambulatory Services and works closely with site managers and other District leadership.
•    Oversight of all functions related to daily clinic operations.
•    Develops guidelines for prioritizing work activities, evaluating effectiveness and modifying activities as necessary.
•    With direction from the Chief Nursing Officer, assists in developing and revising clinical policies and procedures.
•    Prepares and administers annual performance evaluations as required.
•    Provides oversight of fiscal viability by evaluating processes, staffing, revenue cycle, and department purchases.
•    Responsible for assessing the learning needs and management of the clinical and clerical staff. Coordinates educational program with the clinical educator as necessary.
•    Serves as a liaison and channel of communication between the physicians and other medical and administrative staff.
•    Ensures that patients, families, visitors, peers, and physicians are treated with consideration and respect.
•    Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients, family members, and visitors.
•    Fulfills the duties and responsibilities of the Oncology Nurse in addition to the Oncology Nurse Manager responsibilities as follows:

Performs nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients, including patients on a clinical research study. Oversees the planning, scheduling, and implementation of day-to-day clinical activities and procedures for navigated patients. Work with physician and clinical research office to facilitate, coordinate and ensure patient access to Clinical Trials. Central point of contact for all patients; including interaction with medical, nursing, and ancillary services. Provide education to patients and families; acts as an information resource to students, health care professionals, patients, and the public. Track order completion and follow up. Monitor patient compliance with patient treatment plan. Assist patients with referrals to outside resources and care coordination as needed. May attend and refer patients to the tumor board and follow up on tumor board recommendations. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Collaborate with medical providers, patient care staff and clinic management in the planning and implementation of patient and staff education. Designs or participates in the creation of health education materials.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:
•    Is fluent in Standards of Practice for Outpatient Clinics and assures that they are followed.
•    Is knowledgeable of Title 22, CMS regulations and any other federal or state guidelines that impact patient care in the Outpatient Services and disperses that information to staff appropriately.  
•    Ensures that all licensure requirements/credentials/certificates for applicable personnel are valid and current.
•    Conducts department meetings and disperses information appropriately.
•    Ensures adequate staffing to meet the department’s function and purpose.
•    Maintains a positive work environment for staff and physicians.
•    Promotes team efforts.
•    Communicates openly and effectively in written and verbal format.
•    Monitors clinical support practice to assure all guidelines are met.
•    Monitors orientation of staff in the Outpatient Services to assure adequate training and support are provided.
•    Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to monitor care to assure that it is appropriate to the age of the patients served.
•    Other Duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:
•    Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (“BSN”) is preferred.
•    Experience:    At least 3 years oncology clinical experience with demonstrated leadership abilities.
•    Cert/license:    California RN, Chemotherapy Certification from an accredited organization; BLS  from the American Heart Association. Must also complete ONS Nurse Navigator Training and Competencies (or equivalent).
•    Skills/Ability: Excellent clinical skills.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent use of Windows-based computer programs and Microsoft Office is required.  
•    Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy.  
•    Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
