Oncology Pharmacist I - Tidelands Health Cancer Center - Murrells Inlet (Murrells Inlet, SC)

Position Summary:

The Oncology Pharmacist oversees the supervisory, distributive, and clinical functions of the pharmacy including the prompt and accurate checking and monitoring of physician orders, patient medication profiles, and completed prescriptions.  Accurate drug information is promptly provided to patients.  Assists Pharmacy Leadership in their duties to maximize the performance of the department and to implement and improve the pharmacy department, the hospital system, and the community at large. The Oncology Pharmacist will need to cover other pharmacist schedules and cover locations to other clinics if needed. Duties delegated by leadership are accurately and promptly completed.

Essential Functions:

Assists in maintaining a current and cost-effective medication and supply inventory through documented oncology initiatives ensuring education and compliance of clinical initiatives. Maintains the quality assurance programs of the department, inclusive of Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, CMS, and other external quality initiatives. Develops pharmacy topics and education for oncology and pharmacy.Serves as preceptor and mentor to pharmacy students during their clinical experiential programs.Responsible for the direct supervision of oncology techniciansWorks with patient financial liaison and billing & compliance technician to reconcile recovered medications via patient assistance programs.Works with wholesale representative and billing & compliance technician to ensure contract compliance when purchasing medications.Participates with nursing for daily huddles and will address all pharmacy, nursing, and patient issues.Actively seeks and out and interacts with patients during their treatment for counselingReview all biannual hood inspections and monthly unit inspections and reconcile any deficiencies with Pharmacy Leadership in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  

Doctorate degree from an ACPE-accredited school of Pharmacy

Experience:   

Prior experience in sterile compounding pharmacy or infusion therapy pharmacy required. Prior specific experience with preparation and administration of sterile IV compounds required. Prior experience in oncology specialty infusion therapy preferred.  Prior experience in supervisor level or comparable oversight responsibility preferred.  

Licenses/Certifications:  

Active Pharmacy License in the state of South Carolina. Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy preferred. 

Knowledge/Skills: 

Ability to work under direct or minimal supervision and handle stress appropriately required.Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff required. Ability to handle frequent interruptions & adapt to changes in workload and schedule required. Ability to adapt quickly & calmly to changing situations required.Ability to multi-task & problem-solve required. Ability to set priorities, make decisions, and respond quickly to emergency requests required. Communication, supervisory, organizational, learning and minimal teaching skills essential to the proper performance of the duties assigned required. Strong Patient/ Customer satisfaction skills requiredIndependent decision-making, clinical judgment, and in-depth knowledge of oncology and therapeutics requiredAbility to focus on financially cost-conscious, yet clinically effective care required.Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical clean room maintenance, sterile medication compoundingWorking knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 standardsBasic knowledge of chemotherapeutic medications and treatment standards.Must possess good written communication skills and above average verbal communication skills. Must be comfortable presenting information to physicians, pharmacists, and nurses (and respond to their questions). Must be a good listener and an active meeting participant. Must be adept at researching drug information questions, analyzing data and information from several sources, and providing answers that meet the needs of the patients in terms of timeliness, depth and communication format. Must possess above average reasoning skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear.
