Job Description
As an Oncology Pharmacy Technician, you will assist the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients. You will perform designated technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, which includes preparing oral, topical, and parenteral medications for dispensing, labeling, and packaging. You will enter physician orders into the hospital computer system, assist patients, nurses, and physicians with medication requests, monitor stock inventory levels, and conduct regular inspections. You will also prepare IV admixtures, deliver and retrieve medications, and compound products as needed.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare oral, topical, and parenteral medications for dispensing under pharmacist supervision.Enter physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles and charges.Assist patients, nurses, and physicians with medication order requests and pharmacy-related needs.Monitor stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates in pharmacy areas.Conduct monthly and periodic inspections of patient care and department areas.Fill and replace medications in automated dispensing machines and transport them to nursing units.Prepare IV admixtures using aseptic techniques, including STATS, parenteral nutrition bags, and cytotoxic agents.Deliver and retrieve medications and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.Compound products in bulk or per individual order and prepare private stock orders and unit-of-use packaging.Complete and maintain controlled substance inventory logs and records.Essential SkillsExperience in chemotherapy and sterile compounding.Licensed Pharmacy Technician (DC License).Proficient in IV solutions and admixtures.Pharmacy technician certification.1 year of hospital experience required.1 year of experience in Oncology/Chemo or IV Experience.Registration with the DC Department of Health (DOH).Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent national certification.Ability to read and write, knowledge of grammar, medical terminology, and proficiency in basic mathematics, including fractions and decimals.Keyboard skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with standard office/medical equipment such as typewriters, personal computers, data terminals, online printers, calculators, telephones, facsimiles, copiers, and sterilizing equipment.Ability to prepare, compare, or check reports, records, and related data.Basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, and knowledge of their application.Work Environment
This position operates during day shift hours, Monday through Friday from 7 am to 5 pm, with no weekends or holidays required. Standard office and medical equipment will be used, and work may involve preparing, comparing, or checking reports and data, as well as basic use of formulas and charts.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
