Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Bryan School of Business and Economics is comprised of six academic departments and centralized support services. In addition to providing academic and administrative leadership for School, the Bryan School Dean’s Office provides support for research, student services, information and instructional technology, human resources, and budgeting.
Undergraduate online degree programs in the Bryan School include eight BS degree programs and one BA degree program. Together, there are almost 1,200 students enrolled in these online programs. Position Summary The Online Student Support Specialist will work closely with Bryan School Undergraduate Student Services Office (advising), the Bryan Undergraduate Student Professional Development Office, and UNCG Career and Professional Development, to help Bryan online students connect with the internal and external services needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Anticipated duties include: Organize and lead orientation sessions for new online students; Serve as a central resource for online student success; Assist advisors with outreach to, and the development of success plans for, online students that are struggling with academic and non-academic issues that impede their ability to make successful progress to completion; Manage a Canvas organization, including a regular newsletter, that provides: academic and career resources, important deadlines, and updates on current and upcoming events; Engage students with LinkedIn Learning and other relevant external training and certification opportunities; Work with Bryan School and University staff to provide professional development and career related events for online students such as recruiter panels, alumni panels, day in the life of specific professionals, virtual company treks, speakers focused on non-traditional students, semi-structured Q&A sessions, and online company mixers; Work with undergraduate professional development staff to create specific tracks and badges within the Bryan Gold program for online students; Conduct regular surveys and exit interviews of online students to see what they want in terms of events and activities, and obtain feedback on existing courses, degree programs, and extra-curricular activities; and Work with existing student organizations to incorporate online students and help online students develop new student organizations as needed. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Business, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university; or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited four-year institution and minimum of 2 years of experience contributing to online student success initiatives in a higher education setting.
