The Research Lab Assistant II is responsible for receiving specimens and research kits into the CCTO processing laboratory, checking specimens and requisitions for correct labeling and appropriateness, processing specimens according to the individual study protocol requires, and shipping laboratory specimens. Conducts routine laboratory research processing procedures, performs lab cleaning and maintenance, operates specialized equipment. Ensures all specimens are handled and stored properly. Assists in ordering and maintenance of research kit supply inventory. May be trained on the job in basic lab processing under close supervision of PI or other designated laboratory member. This position requires a high degree of interaction with a variety of research staff personnel, along with external stakeholders.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms lab processing of human blood samples, tissue, and other bodily fluids according to established protocols and procedures.Receive research specimens and carefully check label and applicable paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Directly connect with staff who collected the sample if any information is incomplete.Identify research kits needed for upcoming research visits. Track research kits as they are received, confirm they are accurate, complete, and within the expiration date. Compare research kits to specific visits, timepoints, and follow-up with study teams on any discrepancies as necessary.Performs lab cleaning and maintenance duties, including washing and sterilization of glassware, operation of autoclaves and other specialized equipment.Prepare and/or QC lab kits for patient appointments.May be trained on-the-job in basic lab processing under close supervision of PI or other designated laboratory member.Performs administrative duties in laboratory or in accordance with research project, and sample tracking logs.Maintains project and shipping records, as required.Orders laboratory supplies and reagents in a timely manner.Assists in maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment record keeping.QualificationsRequirements:High School or GED required. Associates Degree/College Diploma College coursework in Biological Sciences preferred.One to two (1-2) years actual lab experience including: biochemical research techniques, preparation of reagents and solutions, order/inventory of laboratory supplies, data input, organization and miscellaneous lab functions.
