The Department of Physiology in the School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for faculty positions at all ranks. Individuals holding a Ph.D., DVM, or MD with an outstanding record of innovative research and academic scholarship broadly related to any area of physiology are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests include metabolic physiology (e.g., cardiovascular, endocrine, skeletal muscle, renal, and GI). We seek faculty candidates of integrity and dedication and an aspiration for discovery. Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated current history of successfully funded research. UT Health SA is responsible for the education of medical, dental, doctoral students, and patient care. We value the dignity of our entire university community and collegial collaboration among faculty. 

The successful candidate will receive a competitive start-up package and laboratory space.  Expectations include maintaining an externally funded research program, providing exemplary mentorship, and contributing to the teaching mission of the department, including in the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Our department fosters a team atmosphere, with robust mentoring of early-career faculty and supportive departmental leadership invested in the success of our faculty.  

We offer multiple centers/institutes at UT Health SA, including the Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Barshop Institute for Longevity & Aging Studies, the Mays Cancer Institute, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience, the Center for Mitochondrial Medicine, Center for Metabolic Health, Center for Mucosal & Microbiome Biology, and the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery.  Located in San Antonio are also the San Antonio Army Military Medical Center, the Audie V. Murphy Veterans Hospital, and the Southwest Research Institute, all of which are open to collaboration.  

The San Antonio metropolitan area, with a population of 2.5 million, is widely known for its high standard of living, numerous cultural events, outstanding schools at all levels, and an enviably moderate cost of living.
