The Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for two Professor of Practice faculty positions to begin in August 2024 or January 2025. Typically, appointments are made at the level of Assistant Professor of Practice, but candidates with 20+ years of experience in executive or leadership positions could be considered for a higher-level appointment. These are restricted academic year (9 months) positions (mid-August to mid-May), and renewable. The faculty member will teach 21 credit hours in fall and spring semesters, engage in curriculum development and enrichment efforts, and provide mentoring and career advising to students. The faculty member will also serve on departmental, college, or university committees, conduct digital marketing of the department's programs, and engage students and recruiters through social media. Professors of Practice are expected to interact with industry professionals and remain active in their professions in ways that contribute to their university assignments; examples include executive teaching, industry consulting, and serving in professional societies or associations. These are non-tenure track positions and not intended for tenure transfer but advancement in rank is achievable. An important expectation for the position is the willingness to teach in-person classes in China in the Dual Degree program Virginia Tech has with Xidian University (Xian, China) for 6 weeks during the fall semester. We are seeking candidates who can contribute to the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts of the Pamplin College of Business community.
