**General Summary:**
This position reports into the Open Systems Legal Group, and will be focused on conducting internal software reviews in the areas of open source and artificial intelligence (AI) inclusive of model reviews and datasets, to find ways to enable Business Units to effectively utilize these technologies in a manner consistent with regulatory requirements, while also maintaining license compliance and mitigating intellectual property risks. Notably, while Open Source and AI technologies have overlap, there will be scenarios where one will be analyzing open source issues independent of AI issues, and AI issues independently of open source considerations.
The successful candidate will work closely with software developers to understand how internally developed software will be integrated with Open Source and/or AI software. They will analyze license agreements and investigate regulatory concerns, risks to Qualcomm's intellectual property rights associated with using such software.
The successful candidate will provide counseling on sophisticated issues regarding open source license and AI compliance to senior executives, Business Unit engineers and legal staff. Candidates will also have an advocacy role in working with external organizations including AI, open source, standards, policy workshops, and trade associations, to provide input and occasionally lead discussions to explain the intellectual property implications in the policy context as they relate to open source and AI model deployment and AI training dataset utilization. Experience and creativity in negotiations, comfort in public speaking and a willingness to engage within the open source and/or AI community are additional positive considerations.
Candidates must be able to address a series of practical legal counseling, complex license analysis, and technical scenarios in the area of Open Source, AI, and related topics to be given during the interview process.
A candidate's ability to communicate effectively with company executives, technical professionals, and legal professionals is essential.

**Preferred Qualifications**
• 7+ years in practice with relevant experience
• 5+ years experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house with a focus on technology licensing, intellectual property, inclusive of software, AI, and open source-related areas of practice
• 2+ years experience handling open source issues either in the capacity of a lead AI or open source attorney or in an adjacent area such as intellectual property or technology transactions, in each latter case with exposure to AI and/or open source licensing issues in both breadth and depth
• Ability to appropriately address a series of complex practical scenarios in the area of open source legal issues to be given during the interview process
• Knowledge of software programming fundamentals
**Education:**
• Required: Juris Doctorate degree, other applicable degree, or international equivalent.
• Preferred: Bachelors degree in an engineering field, with significant exposure to computer science-related course work
**Minimum Qualifications:**
• Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent.
• 5+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house.
• Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring).

**Pay range** **and Other Compensation & Benefits** **:**
$165,600.00 - $248,400.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
