Operating Engineer (Red Seal or Blue Seal)

What this job involves: The Operating Engineer will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.


What your day-to-day will look like:

Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment at a client’s site.Maintaining and Operating (1) Solar Turbines, (1) Heat Recovery Steam Generators and (2) High Pressure Boilers,Perform maintenance, monitoring repairs to the Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems for the facility to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.Maintains responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance and technical proficiency.Ensure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies and develop sources for stock materials related to maintaining the facility.Record readings and make adjustments where necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment.Review monthly client service request summaries to pinpoint and correct recurrent operational problems.Evaluate vendors and suppliers on a regular basis with regard to quality and competitive pricing.Prepare and submit purchase order requests.Verify the accuracy of deliveries for count, pricing, and description.Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.Ensure that work performed in client space is accomplished with a minimum of disruption and is followed by adequate clean-up.Lead and/or assist with event setup/teardown activities including electrical, audio visual, coordinating with security or other tasks as needed.Assist the operations team in the maintenance and repair of building and equipment and/or as directed.Communicates with client, management, colleagues, and operations team regarding issues / project completion timelines / workload priorities.Utilize CMMS systems for all work performed and management of work orders.General interior maintenance – hang pictures, install keyboard trays, repair office furniture systems, repair doors, moves office furniture / machinery / equipment, and other task as assigned.Complies with all policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous material.Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety of all work areas.Ability to recognize, assess and mitigate or eliminate risk. Including completing Hazard Assessments as necessary.Maintain compliance to state and county codes and / or laws.Must be able to read and understand schematics.Attend work and safety meetings as required.Work in this position will be Campus based.Must be available for Call-in work.Any and all other duties and tasks assigned.

Work Schedule

This is a union position - 12 hour rotating shift - 3 nights on, 3 days off, 4 days on, 7 days off, 4 nights on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 1 off and then rotate again.

Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:

Completion of a vocational/trade program preferred.2 years’ experience as an Operating Engineer in a Life Sciences or Medical facility a plus.

Required Skills and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent.2+ years of similar working experienceBlue Seal Operating Engineer License required with attainment of Red Seal Operating Engineer License within one year of employment is mandatory.Ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.Ability to effectively use computers and computer programs (including use of Microsoft Office).Skilled in use of the internet to navigate to and use web-based applications.Possess excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.Ability to create, modify and edit processes, procedures and reports.Comprehensive knowledge of Safe Work practices especially regarding energized work, PPE, working at heights, and confined spaces.Ability to lift 50 pounds.Frequent climbing ladders, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working / extending overhead.Ability to work exposed to heat, sunlight, rain, cold, daylight and nighttime hours as required.Working in adverse conditions (cold and hot conditions).

Estimated total compensation for this position:

95,000.00 – 95,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
