Summary:

Vighter is recruiting multiple Registered Nurses (RN) with a specialty in the Operating Room to provide patient care support at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. The VA Center is rated as a complex medical facility, therefore provides care to Veterans locally and from surrounding states. RNs are responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of all care provided to patients in the facility including proper time out, consent, credentialed staff available, body positioning, documentation of implants or surgical hardware, medication administration, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring necessary supply /equipment availability, etc. In addition to regularly scheduled cases, staff may provide on-call services for urgent and emergent cases after hours, weekends, and holidays. The team strives to provide advanced notice for all scheduling of RN coverage to provide predictability and ease of planning.

Principle Accountabilities:

The OR RN provides the full range of nursing services within the Operating Room and within the scope of practice for a variety of patient-centered procedures and operations and ensures that all JHACO standards for care are met during performance of patient care. OR RNs provide complex and comprehensive professional nursing services within the professional  scope of practice for a variety of diagnoses for patients of all ages. RNs operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to portable dialysis  machines, CRRT machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, various types of suction apparatus,  infusion equipment, PCA, epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, cardio-respiratory  monitors, vital sign monitors, and assist with patients in Operating Room environments. RNs prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and assist with procedures as  necessary. Provide post-procedure and post-operative recovery care and verifies the content and correctness of all recorded entries in the patient record. All  documentation, records and reports must meet or exceed established VA standards to include, but  not limited to: timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, and signature. The outpatient record shall  be completed the same day the patient is seen. Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills:

Must have exceptional customer service skills. Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision. Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

Holds a diploma, Associate of Science degree from an NLN accredited college, or university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any State. A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited university is preferred. 

Qualifications:

Has been actively practicing as a registered nurse in an Operating Room or  Emergency Room setting for two years; or has been actively practicing in an  acute and long-term setting for one year.  Experience must have been obtained while working in a Surgical Center or Hospital Operating Room environment.  (Experience obtained assisting in minor surgical procedures performed within a physician's office is not considered to be appropriate experience.)

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this key position supporting 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.

Travel:

As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commute is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day, must be willing to work overtime if necessary. Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet. Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders. Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear. Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS). Positions require applicants to be US Citizens, 21 years or older.
