General Function:
Assist in the implementation of delegated patient care activities according to the individual's
level of education, training, and demonstration of competency. Demonstrate knowledge of
the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills needed to provide
care. Ensure positive response to the patient's, physician's, and team members needs.
Function under supervision of RN. Assist in preparing room, instruments, and equipment peri-
operatively. Perform in the scrub nurse role.


Job Duties:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of and scrub for all surgical services.
3. Prepare instruments and supplies for autoclaving.
4. Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies, and in-service staff members as needed.
5. Assist in teaching new employees scrub and sterility techniques.
6. Uses measures to promote patient safety and correct surgery / site.
7. Responsible for call on a rotational basis.
8. Utilize supplies and materials in a cost-effective manner.
9. Identify emergency situations, and institute corrective actions in a calm and efficient
manner.
10. Obtain needed supplies, equipment, and instruments for assigned cases.
11. Assist surgeon peri-operatively as needed.
12. Demonstrate knowledge, use, and maintenance of equipment used in the OR suite.
13. Supervise and instruct students rotating through surgical services.
14. In-service staff members on new equipment and supplies.
15. Perform as a team member for the common good of the patient, and take responsibility
for personal actions.
16. Participate in updating physician preference cards.
17. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
