We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Operating Room Technician - Full Time, Days (7AM - 5PM, Alternating Days) - NSG-Operating Room - Ful.
In this role, the successful candidate The ORT is an integral team member in the safe efficient care of the intraoperative client The individual ORT is able to efficiently quickly and accurately set up maintain and monitor the sterile and or aseptic field The ORT assists surgeons by assembling and passing instrumentation and supplies holding retractors and anticipating surgical needs Cleans stocks and maintains all instrumentation and supplies The ORT is knowledgeable in infection control principals for patient self and staff safety and well being
Job Responsibilities:
To provide safe and reliable patient care ndash; related to aseptic and sterile environment Follows policy and procedure for proper OR attire in appropriate areas Checks integrity expiration dates and proper processing of all items opened for a sterile field Uses aseptic technique when scrubbing gowning and gloving Initiates corrective actions when breaks in sterile field occur Uses proper open glove technique for any glove change during procedure Properly moves in and around a sterile field Describes parameters required for methods of sterilization Chooses correct method and time of sterilization related to item Demonstrates correct safe use of autoclave and steris machines Documents accurately each time used for autoclave and steris Plans for and can properly drape for varying surgical procedures Safely administers accepts and labels sterile solutions or medications to the sterile field Per national safety guidelines per hospital protocol Transfers specimen s without breaking integrity of sterile field To provide safe and reliable patient care ndash; related to environment of care Follows Universal Precautions at all times Contains and disposes of contaminated items can describe process Disposes of sharps appropriately can describe actions Uses Personal Protective Equipment in accordance with Medical Center Policy and Procedure Uses safe zone as per policy Assembles all necessary equipment prior to procedure Checks all equipment for proper functioning at this time Initiates proper procedure for malfunctioning equipment Removes labels and notifies appropriate personnel Operates mechanical electrical and air powered equipment according to manufacturers instructions Properly decontaminates all equipment and instrumentation Can identify ldquo;problematic rdquo; instrumentation and equipment and proper care required Notifies appropriate personnel when instrumentation or equipment is in need of repair Labels with yellow repair tag if appropriate Restocks instrument trays as necessary for next patient use All compressed gasses that are brought to room for a procedure are checked for accuracy of content by surgical team Can identify appropriate compressed gas needed for specific equipment/procedure when questioned To provide safe and reliable patient care ndash; related to patient positioning and transferring nbsp; Assembles usual required patient positioning equipment prior to procedure Adjusts plan of care after assessment of specific patient care needs or surgeons rsquo; preference Safely transfers patient under the direction of the nursing surgical or anesthesiology staff using proper devices Can identify all positioning devices their uses and storage Demonstrates safe proficiency in their usage Demonstrates motivation initiative professionalism and accountability Seeks opportunities for continued learning further education seminars inservices Seeks information and input from experienced personnel the Nurse Manager Clinical Educator or Resource Coordinator Restocks rooms Handles instrumentation and equipment with care to ensure integrity and longevity Uses assigned instrument tags in appropriate instrument trays 100 of the time Performs daily assignment and initials on Daily Assignment sheet Performs weekend assignments and duties and initials list Picks for and prepares cases according to Surgeon Preference Cards signs card Updates Surgeon Preference cards as necessary Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the OR team Demonstrates compassion and understanding when dealing with patients and their families Practices within ethical and legal guidelines nbsp; Can identify tasks that require NYS licensure Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in work flow Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in staffing coverage for the unit Actively participates in Performance Improvement data collection and reporting Identifies individual role in risk management Identifies process to notify appropriate individuals for potential risk Demonstrates and promotes cost effective behaviors in day to day function Complies with safety and emergency procedures Achieves BLS certification States location of pull stations and fire extinguishers in the intraoperative area Identifies occupational hazards and preventative actions in the intraoperative setting States location of oxygen/gasses shut off boxes in the intraoperative area States location of crash cart brings to appropriate room at direction of RN or MD Anticipates the need for supplies and equipment in an emergency situation and responds quickly in an organized mannernbsp;
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalency Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization required Exemptions are provided for those currently practicing as surgical technologists The individual must provide evidence for a cumulative period of one 1 year occurring within the four 4 years immediately prior to the effective date January 1 2015 Surgical technologists are required to annually complete fifteen 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified to practice Able to lift equipment/supplies up to 30# on a daily basis Can stand for 70 to 90 per day Dexterous with fine or intricate instruments Able to prioritize anticipate and alter activities throughout the day Possesses mature interpersonal skills Able to cope with the frequent risk of exposure to blood/body fluids during normal duties Able to cope with the environmental risks related to chemicals and steam Current BLS from AHA required Adaptable able to handle a change in procedures quickly and efficiently And/or change in assignments

The salary range for the role is $71,994.00 - $92,704.80 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
