Operational Risk Director - ORM Program & Practices (Hybrid - NYC)
**Overview** This role supports the strategic direction and overall execution of Operational Risk Management, leads a specialized and highly performing team, and provides independent and objective perspectives relative to Operational Risk program and practices. They enhance, implement, and maintain Operational Risk program elements in conformance with applicable Bank policies, supervisory expectations, and industry trends. They report to the Senior Director-Operational Risk Management and exercise independent judgment, discretion, and decision-making. The individual is considered a subject matter expert with respect to Operational Risk management concepts, inclusive of industry best practices and the expectations of Executive and Senior Management, the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, Regulators, Internal and External Auditors. **Primary Responsibilities** + Ownership of Operational Risk Management’s (ORM) program framework, including supporting policies, procedures, and department internal guidance. Key elements include: RCSA requirements, Findings, Internal Events, External Events, KRI and Testing requirements, Continuous Monitoring. + Ownership of applicable governing documents (e.g. Charters, Policies) including assurance that ORM’s scope and mandate is accurately reflected in key enterprise documents (e.g. enterprise risk framework). + Provide training on ORM Program to ORM, Risk Division and business risk partners as appropriate + Ownership of ORM reporting capabilities to key stakeholders, including Operational Risk Committee, Management Risk Committee, and other bodies at the senior/executive level. This may include preparing reports delivered to the Risk Committee of the Board. Quarterly Operational Risk Profile reporting is a core function of this role. + Ownership of key reports and deliverables to internal/external audit and external regulators. Serves as a primary point of contact to these teams/functions with respect to the ORM program. + Develop and monitor metrics to support effective management of ORM program activities and metrics to support risk assessment conclusions from ORM program execution. + Provide risk analytics expertise in support of program execution and reporting. + Ownership of ORM records, ORM data standards and risk taxonomy + Represent ORM in co-ordination with Risk Division partners to achieve consistent cross pillar approaches on bankwide risk program elements and in prioritizing and testing functional capabilities in Bank GRC in support of ORM. + Serves as primary support to the Senior Director – Operational Risk Management in developing, communicating, and executing the ORM strategic vision + Responsible for ORM’s internal quality assurance program. Designs and oversees execution of a comprehensive program that ensures ORM conforms with applicable policies and procedures as well as supervisory expectations. + Responsible for ORM’s skills capabilities assessment and training program. Drives the identification of skills necessary to effectively execute the ORM mandate while partnering with business partners to deliver the training and education necessary. **Scope of Responsibilities** Operational Risk Management is a core function that is responsible for providing an independent, objective and continuous oversight of M&T’s operational risk profile and the effectiveness of the supporting risk management framework. The Operational Risk Director is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive program to assure ORM’s ongoing conformance to applicable policies, procedures, and alignment with supervisory expectations and for monitoring the program execution across the bank. **Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities** Oversee a team of individuals within the operational risk discipline. **Education and Experience Required:** Bachelor’s degree and twelve years' experience in compliance, legal, audit, risk or other relevant function, OR in lieu of degree, A combined minimum sixteen years’ higher education and/or work experience including twelve years’ experience in compliance, legal, audit, risk or other relevant function. Minimum of five years’ managerial or supervisory experience. Demonstrated leadership capabilities. Proficient computer skills (including spreadsheet and word processing software), analytical skills, working knowledge of applicable laws, written and verbal communications w/ all levels. Preferred skills & experience: + Management level experience within Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, or other risk disciplines. + Experience preparing reports for delivery to executive management. + Experience using Archer or other eGRC platforms. + Operational Risk program management M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $197,292.36 - $328,820.60 Annual (USD).
