MetLife’s Operational Risk Management ("ORM") function within Global Risk Management is responsible for the design and implementation of company-wide policies, frameworks and tools enabling appropriate management of non-financial risks throughout the organization. ORM partners closely with various stakeholders across the enterprise to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a strong risk culture.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Operational Risk Specialist, reporting to the Head of ORM - Technology, Third-Party and Resilience. The Operational Risk Specialist will be responsible for providing risk advisory and challenge of Data, AI, and Cybersecurity risks and building risk discipline capabilities within these categories. Specifically, he/she will partner closely with the Global Technology and Operations organization and other risk functions to ensure appropriate risk coverage, governance, and reporting. The successful candidate will help manage ongoing adherence and drive maturity to the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) framework designed to enable effective risk identification, assessment, oversight, and escalation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as a domain risk advisor to key stakeholders within the 1st and 2nd lines of defense.
* Lead the development and implementation of risk discipline capabilities and operating model.
* Support ORM programs including Non-Financial Risk Assessments, Risk Event Collection and Reporting, Key Risk Indicator identification and management, and Issue Management.
* Collaborate with technology and control functions to provide guidance and effective challenge in identification and management of operational risks.
* Advise on risk mitigation strategies and oversee remediation of material issues.
* Partner with technology leaders to monitor effective key risk indicators, thresholds, and escalation processes.
* Lead or participate in cross-functional strategic projects providing risk advisory.
* Lead deep dive targeted risk reviews within the portfolio
* Analyze assessment results to identify themes/trends for executive awareness and reporting.
* Foster relationships with 1st line management and other risk and control partners (privacy, model risk, data and information security, etc.)
* Remain current with industry operational risk trends, emerging technology risks, and regulatory areas of focus.
* Drive single pane view of risk through integration and alignment with the three lines of defense.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
* 10+ year(s) Risk Management or related Internal Audit/Risk & Control Environment experience
* Expert analytic skills with the ability to conduct root-cause analysis and recommend corrective action.
* Expert knowledge of risk management principles, fundamentals, and techniques
* Experienced in managing change and influencing leaders with a willingness to challenge others.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
* Intellectually curious with a passion for learning.
* Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment while driving continuous improvement and maturity.
* Initiative-taking individual with an ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment, operating with a sense of urgency.
What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)
* Professional certifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Data Science, Engineering, or other related disciplines
* 3+ years in financial services industry
* Knowledge of GRC technologies, such as Open Pages
* Ability to speak other languages
