Operations Analyst
Overview

SIG has a job opening for an Operations Analyst to support our Energy and Commodities desk in our Bala Cynwyd headquarters, just minutes from Center City Philadelphia.  In this role, you will work side by side with our traders gaining exposure across the full spectrum of operational roles on a trading desk. Your knowledge of the lifecycle of a trade as well as how exchanges and clearing firms operate will be heavily utilized as you will be responsible for the settlement and reconciliation of trading activity and resolving any trade breaks. Additionally, you will have responsibility to generate and reconcile the daily Profit and Loss (PnL) reports as well as support ad-hoc reporting requests that may arise throughout the trading day. Your role will be that of an active collaborator as you will be working with our traders as well as with clearing agents, internal teams, and related third parties. We will also look to you to drive process improvements and efficiencies related to reporting and overall trade support activities. In this role, you will:

Support traders for all operational issues including trade settlement and resolution of any discrepancies / issues with clearing agent and associated third parties (where applicable)Research and resolve questions, disputes, and data errors in the settlement computationsCreate and reconcile daily PnL and positions by business unit and report information to the back office operations teamAssist accounting department with monthly reconciliations and yearly auditsParticipate in and provide insight related to system development, product implementation and ongoing maintenance of market settlement/risk management softwareDemonstrate and maintain a strong level of understanding, knowledge and expertise in financial products being traded on the desk; provide operational support for trading activity taking placeDevelop and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and external organizations to answer questions and resolve issuesClearly communicate complex technical concepts both in a written and oral mannerContinually monitor and refine workflow and business processes to meet the goals to improve/enhance settlement process; identify process improvement opportunities to increase accuracy, efficiency and timeliness related to desk processes, procedures or systems utilized to support daily activities
What we're looking for
Bachelors degree in finance, accounting or a related discipline requiredMinimum of six months of experience required; experience in an operations or financial services related role preferredAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills required; knowledge of VBA as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Access strongly preferredAbility to improve established processes and leverage technology resources essentialAn understanding of or exposure to the operational support of energy trading, especially with regards to electricity and / or natural gas, preferred
