Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manager

Located 30 miles south of Albany, the Athens Generating Plant stands as a formidable energy hub in the town of Athens, NY. Boasting a capacity of 1,080 megawatts, it operates three Siemens 501G combustion turbine generators fueled by natural gas combined-cycle technology, ensuring efficient and reliable power generation for the region. Nestled amidst scenic landscapes, this facility serves as a vital contributor to the area's electricity grid, meeting the demands of modern energy consumption with cutting-edge technology.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manager provides leadership to the plant O&M department for the safe and efficient operation of generating equipment under the general direction of the Plant Manager. The O&M Manager manages the daily operation of the facility to ensure that generating requirements, plant efficiency and reliability are maintained in a safe manner and in compliance with all applicable permits, laws and regulations.

 Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as the Operations& Maintenance Manager includes the following primary functions:

Direct O&M Technicians in the performance of their duties to maintain reliable, safe, and efficient project operation

Report normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager

Takes the lead in investigating and resolving all forced outages and operating irregularities. Reviews and makes recommendations to improve equipment availability, performance and reliability.

Prepare required reports

Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records

Prepares O&M department budgets and/or makes recommendations to the Plant Manager relative to operating and capital budgets. Implements O&M activities in accordance with approved budget.

Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current plant goals, operating requirements, and the industry's best practices

Oversee the training of all operations personnel and maintain the plant operations training program

Implements a comprehensive maintenance program that includes preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs in accordance with NAES, manufacturer and industry practice and as indicated by equipment and system performance, maintenance records and safety requirements Continually evaluates the maintenance program and adjusts conditions to optimize maintenance cost effectiveness, work quality, outage time and availability Recommends, plans and supervises the execution of planned outages. Ensures that work performed by plant personnel and contractors is planned and progresses as scheduled to meet performance and cost objectives.

Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of operating personnel

Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager

Working Relationships

The O&M Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate operations and maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

Regular scheduled workdays are Monday to Friday during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $135,000 to $155,000.

 Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with extensive technical and leadership experience in power plant operations, along with a work history that demonstrates a track record of accomplishments and career advancement.

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school Relevant undergraduate degree in a technical field is preferred Strong background in power plant operations and maintenance, including experience in gas turbines is desired, preferably with a work history which highlights a consistent record of achievements and career progression Supervisory or management experience in which there was oversight of hourly employees and delegation of tasks associated with completion of projects Leadership and motivational skills to manage and motivate personnel Written communication skills to write operating procedures, routine reports, work requests, etc. Verbal communication skills to clearly communicate tasks/instructions, train personnel, etc. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office; experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) desired Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at all times
