Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician

The Richland-Stryker Generation project comprises two peaking power plants. The Richland Peaking Plant, situated in Defiance, OH, features a robust power generation infrastructure with six units powered by natural gas as the primary fuel and distillate fuel oil (DFO) as a secondary option, collectively generating an impressive 450MW. The Stryker Peaking Plant in Stryker, OH, operates a single unit exclusively firing with distillate fuel oil, contributing 19MW to the energy landscape.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. The O&M Technician carries out all routine plant maintenance, inspects and monitors operating components and reports plant status.

Primary Functions

Assist in the start-up, shut-down, and normal operation of power plant systems. Operate major auxiliary equipment, including air compressors, demineralized water systems, generator cooling systems, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical apparatus. Perform operational tests and inspections, making minor repairs and adjustments to ensure proper operating conditions. Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels to clear equipment or prepare it for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures. This includes clearing, tagging, testing, and safety taping operations. Maintain assigned logs. Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that arise during work, taking corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions. Assist during maintenance periods. Support the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by demonstrating proficiency in its use, entering data consistent with team practices, and showing dedication to the facility's maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly document equipment issues in Maximo work requests and record maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handle corrective and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner, diligently documenting spare parts usage and reordering as needed. Read meters, gauges, and automatic devices to record data such as equipment temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions. Visually inspect and listen to equipment at regular intervals to detect malfunctions or the need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication. Diagnose the cause of mechanical malfunctions or failures in operational equipment. Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts, and lubricate and clean components as required. Use Fluke meters and other test equipment to calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and electrical circuits. Assist in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers (PLCs), plant control systems, and distributed control systems (DCS), including control card replacement and wiring terminations. Perform additional tasks as required by the Plant Manager.

Working Relationships

The O&M Technician reports to the Operations & Maintenance Manager, and work under the direction of the Plant Manager.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position follows a regular Monday to Friday work schedule, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $30 to $40 per hour.

Job Qualifications

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Experience in the power plant industry and power plant operations is desirable. Theoretical and practical knowledge of aero derivative combustion turbine operations, electrical systems, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection / recording of plant parameters is highly desirable. Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is desirable. Familiarization with the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); the plant utilizes MAXIMO. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
