The Hill Top Energy Center in Carmichaels, PA, is a state-of-the-art combined cycle power generation facility. Opportunity Summary
The Operations Maintenance Technician (OMT) - Auxiliary Operator position offers a dynamic opportunity to assist with the operation and maintenance of diverse power plant equipment, ensuring reliable and continuous operability. Responsibilities include maintaining chemical pumping systems, performing preventive and planned maintenance, and supporting emergency operations to safeguard facility equipment.
Primary Functions
Work as assigned by the Operations Manager. Based on those assignments, obtain direct guidance from the CRO Lead. Assist with operations of the equipment and monitor operational parameters, ensuring reliable and continuous operability of equipment. Operate and maintain a wide variety of power plant and water treatment plant equipment. Maintain operations of chemical pumping systems, ensuring optimal chemistry control and equipment reliability. Assist with maintenance activities to include mechanical work, instrumentation, and electrical repair activities. Perform or assist with, depending on the level of complexity, preventive maintenance actions. Perform or assist with, depending on the level of complexity, planned maintenance (PM) and routine repairs to damaged or malfunctioning equipment. Withdraw parts and supplies from inventory and complete usage reports to report such withdrawals to the plant's inventory control system. Assist in physical inventories. Work around and repair rotating equipment, chemical systems, and water processing equipment. Perform or assist with chemical handling and offloads. Perform emergency operations and maintenance to maintain production and safeguard facility equipment. Obtain direction from other team members to effect changes in plant conditions and chemistry. Actively support the Maintenance Team in the execution of maintenance plans by providing support (Lock Out Tag Out execution, Confined Space preparation, and Hot Work preparation), equipment identification, troubleshooting, work request preparation, or other areas as needed. Working Relationships
The Auxiliary Operator reports to the Operations Manager and takes direction from the CRO Lead depending on assigned duties.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position involves working rotating 12-hour shifts on a Modified Dupont schedule: 6 AM to 6 PM for day shifts and 6 PM to 6 AM for night shifts (14 scheduled shifts out of 28 days). Position may require extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status may periodically be required.
Compensation
Initial starting compensation will range from $35 to $49 per hour.
Job Qualifications
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Associate degree in a technical field is desirable. Experience in a power plant environment is preferred, especially in roles such as Power Plant Technician or equivalent. Four years of experience with high-pressure turbines, combustion turbines, and associated equipment is preferred. Experience in water chemistry control, water condition analysis, water treatment facility operations, and chemical handling is highly desired. Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is preferred. Practical and theoretical knowledge of combustion turbine operations, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and the inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable. A strong aptitude for math and mechanical/electrical abilities is desirable. Knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment is preferred.
