**Job Description:**
**DIVISION:** Office of the Executive Vice-President
**DEPARTMENT:** Public Safety
**BASIC FUNCTION:** Implements, oversees and processes Fairfield University’s Department of Public Safety Vehicle Registration System averaging 8000 vehicles registered per year; analyzes the chronic violator list indicating 5+ tickets per single automobile; processes the University Department of Public Safety Ticket System; prepares automated reports and listings for review; supervises between three and six student assistants and remains abreast of Public Safety parking procedures and implements such procedures; acts as liaison between the Parking Office and the parking software company as well as Fairfield University IT Department; review parking page on DPS website and make changes when necessary; Communicates regularly with parents, students and administration for both Prep and University communities.
**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:**
**COMMUNICATION:** Ability to effectively communicate, manage complaints, and foster an atmosphere of open communication.
**EDUCATION:** High School Diploma or Equivalent
**EXPERIENCE:** 3-5 years or more general office experience; works independently with minimal supervision required. Demonstrated ability with computers, interpersonal and communication skills.
**HOURS:** This is a Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. position. Occasional adjustments and working holidays may be required.
**REPORTS TO:** Associate Director of Public Safety
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implements and processes Fairfield University’s Public Safety Vehicle
Registration System averaging 8000 per year. This involves:
+ oversight of vehicle registration for students, faculty, staff and guests
and instructing applicants on vehicle registration procedures, both online and in-person,
+ inspects registration forms.
+ processing biographical information on-line for temporary registrations,
+ collecting vehicle registration fees, both online and in person.
+ preparing registration fee documentation and forwarding to University Accounting Department for reconciliation.
2. Analyzes the chronic violator listing and performs appropriate action.
This involves:
+ maintains accurate list of chronic violators,
+ notifying violators of procedures and proper appeal measures,
+ Assist with appeals and send notification emails
3. Processing the University Public Safety Ticket System. This involves:
+ maintains hardware /software ticketing system
+ order relevant materials including ticket paper, envelopes and signage
+ act as lesion with on line parking vendor
4. Prepares automated reports and listings for review. This involves:
+ review of the student batch billing report with the office of the Bursar when necessary,
+ providing chronic violator listings of vehicles accumulating 5+ tickets per one automobile for Public Safety officers,
+ compiling annual statistical reports, and others as requested.
5. Oversees a minimum of three student assistants.
+ ensures students have the necessary computer access
+ creates student work schedule every semester
+ assist with onboarding of new student workers
6. Remains abreast of Department of Public Safety parking procedures and updates, documents, recommends and implements such procedures. In addition, orders via Purchasing department or Printing & Graphic Arts department, tickets, permit applications, temporary passes, appeal forms and parking stickers.
7. Assists in the professional development of the Department of Public Safety. This involves:
+ promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the
+ University community and consistent with the department’s mission,
+ acting as a responsible committee representative as requested,
+ attending departmental staff meetings as requested.
8. Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:
+ promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials,
+ notifying supervisor immediately of any unsafe conditions.
9. Oversees and examines underclassmen requests for exceptions to the restriction on First Year and sophomore students to have vehicles on campus. Works in conjunction with the office of Accessibility and Health Center.
10. Performs other related duties as directed or dictated by responsibilities.
**Uniform:** This position is an unarmed position and will be assigned a different and distinct uniform from the Department of Public Safety Officers.
**Compensation:** $22.00 hourly wage, with a competitive benefits package.
