The Chicago Terminal is located in the far southeast corner of Chicago, on the east shore of Lake Calumet within the Illinois International Port District’s Lake Calumet Industrial Corridor. Approximately a 3 mile drive from I-94 and 103rd St., and from I-94 and 131st St., the terminal unloads and loads tank trucks, tank cars, barges, and ships to/from bulk liquid storage tanks that are leased by our Customers. These bulk liquid products include chemicals, biofuels, aviation deicers, and vegetable oils.
The Assistant Operations Superintendent is a key member of terminal management team at the Chicago Liquids Terminal and is responsible for operational efficiency, productivity and safety of all assigned daily main yard operations at the Chicago Liquid Storage Terminal.
Basic account management of all customers,Liaison with supported customersPreparing for and managing audits, incident response and investigation and ensuring equipment and infrastructure are operational and performing within regulatory and industry standardsResponsible for maintaining a safe and efficient work place and a customer focused culture at all timesThis position must be able to lead their workforce by example in all areas such as Safety, Kinder Morgan Values, Environmental Protection, Financial Responsibility and AttitudeAdditionally responsible for training, developing and disciplining union laborers and operations supervisors in concert with the Company’s vision and progressive discipline plans. Perform other duties as assigned Ensure work environment remains clean and safe at all timesDemonstrate excellent decision making ability and be able to perform well with little guidanceMaintain adherence to DOT, OSHA, and BATF regulations as well as various other guidelines, standards, and company operating procedures24/7 365 days a year where may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and etc.
Key Task Requirements:
Manage inventory and operational efficiency of more than 90 main yard liquid storage tanksEnsure the Operations Supervisors and Terminal Operators have the proper training and tools to meet the requirements of their positions and comply with company policies/procedures to achieve zero injuries, zero employee preventable releases, and ensure efficient workforce utilization. Take action to prevent incidents by recommending improvements to equipment, systems and proceduresOpenly and actively support the Company’s Management Team initiatives and decisions with peers and subordinatesBe knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility operation. Perform tasks as directed by management and established proceduresCommunicate sufficiently and professionally with all terminal employees to ensure appropriate individuals have the necessary information to meet the goals of the facilityDevelop and implement processes and procedures to eliminate reoccurring daily operational issues including asset based and performance based issuesParticipate in the hiring process for all hourly union and subordinate personnelManage internal and external audits for each supported customerSchedule, track and supervise required training for all terminal personnel. Participate in the administering of the training programs and field spot evaluations of employees. Attend, schedule and lead meetingsManage assigned operational budget areas in accordance with predetermined goalsEstablish and maintain solid relationships with customers, carriers and KM Departments/employees by addressing their questions and concerns with speed and professionalismManage union workforce efficiently on specific daily tasksLead initiatives for improvement and efficiency with regards to area of responsibility. Make recommendations and serve as project lead for areas outside of immediate responsibility as required. Follow through on issues identified to ensure appropriate resolutionCommunicate information clearly and concisely through wireless radios, telephone, email, handwritten messages, and in personServe as the Incident Commander for all incidents and accidents within the plant until properly relievedProvide 100% customer satisfaction. Follow through on customer related issues to ensure complete customer satisfactionOther duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Education Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree or five years applicable experience is required.
Job Requirements:
Minimum of five years of leadership / management experience in a dynamic environmentExemplary communications skills – both oral and writtenProven ability to take initiative and lead subordinates to accomplish defined goals in a fast paced environmentThe ability to work from decentralized instructions (written and verbal)Must be able to respond to emergencies when necessaryMust be able to split time between industrial and office environments during daily operationsMust be able to work quickly and make informed decisions independently and accurately under pressureMust be able to work various hours outside of scheduled shift to meet the demands of the businessMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurersMandatory drug screen and background check upon hireMust successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) as required by the Transportation Security Administration at the start of employment.
Preferred Experience:
A working knowledge of flammable liquids is preferredExperience managing a Union work force is preferred
Compensation:
$88,500 - $128,300
Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
