How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Operations Director for the Inspection platform, you will serve as a member of its senior leadership team and work closely with leaders across sites and functions to create and execute strategic initiatives, standard processes, and an operating cadence that drive results in: revenue and margin growth, strategy deployment, continuous improvement, and inorganic growth / integrations.
This role will lead Operations across Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Facilities, and EH&S to ensure the Inspection platform has world-class operational processes, using a Lean and 80/20 mentality to delight customers both external and internal, creating differentiated value for them while driving profitable financial growth for the business.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

Strategic Planning & Leadership Identifying, assessing, and leading strategic initiatives to improve operating approaches in the delivery of goods and services to the market. This includes the evaluation of equipment, personnel, processes, and material resourcing requirements to maximize effectiveness of the operation, as measured by safety, quality, production capacity, on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, and cost effectiveness. Developing and managing a Capital Plan to support growth, facilitate new products/processes, lower costs, expand capacity, and meet statutory requirements. Developing and executing annual operating plans that align to growth and profitability objectives, meeting daily, weekly, and monthly customer and financial commitments and SQDC-related KPIs. Partnering with other functional leaders to ensure alignment on the New Product Development roadmap and on-time/budget product launches, as well as other strategic growth initiatives. Directing and coordinating operations teams in implementing metrics, process improvements, and organizational changes to drive continuous improvement. Setting ambitious world-class standards that are measured, monitored, and achieved. Supporting the SPX acquisitions strategy as a member of the Inspection due diligence team. Evaluating businesses and providing assessments based on Operational fit and opportunity. Leading key integration activities to support smooth transitions and achievement of financial objectives. Continuously reviewing overall supply chain for opportunities to reduce cost while achieving operational goals through low-cost sourcing, value engineering, and other productivity initiatives. Driving collaboration with global operations teams, business unit personnel, Operations leaders outside of the core growth businesses, and matrix reporting functions.Operational Efficiencies & Cost Savings: Establishing key performance metrics and benchmarks for production/ planning / forecasting; measures actual performance against goals on a regular basis, applies expertise to facilitate improvements to relevant system’s functionality; and analyzes data. Driving the continuous improvement agenda, using Lean and 80/20 approaches, ensuring all team members effectively utilize the principles daily to identify improvement opportunities, problem solve, rapidly implement countermeasures, and sustain solutions that drive advancement of CI culture. Adopting tools and methodologies to address business requirements (such as lean tools, KPIs, production planning methodologies, general operating systems, etc.) and partnering to develop and implement business systems for the broader enterprise in conjunction with corporate Operations leaders. Ensuring the operations team has a strong safety-conscious work culture including the proactive prevention, investigation, and correction of EH&S related issues.
3. Talent Development:
Supporting and driving a performance-based culture through the development and cascading of clear and measurable objectives while ensuring timely formal and informal feedback is provided. Evaluating organizational structure and implementing changes to leverage investments in talent. This includes conducting a review of global operations processes to identify improvement opportunities, evaluating role structures, providing growth/development opportunities for strong performers, and improving effectiveness across functions at different sites. Fostering a continuous learning environment and ensuring best practices, technical tools, and processes are leveraged across the business. Cultivating and developing talent to create a customer-focused, high-performing team that consistently meets and exceeds performance targets while espousing SPX Values of Integrity, Accountability, Excellence, Teamwork, and Results. What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
15+ years’ experience in Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and/or Supply Chain Management including 5+ years of multi-site responsibility at a senior level.15+ years of relevant manufacturing experience with 10+ years of significant people leadership, change management, and organizational design responsiblity.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in Lean implementation (Six Sigma Black Belt preferred) is required; experience in 80/20 implementation is a plus. Experience in a fabrication and assembly environment (with CNC machining and welding as a plus) Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, 80/20, JIT, SCM, TQM, Total Preventative Maintenance. Strong knowledge of financial measurement tools including familiarity with the balance sheet and income statement. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills, particularly for balancing multiple priorities. Sound computer skills including hands-on capability with word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and business systems (ERP). Resourceful in consistently applying effective solutions to technical and people issues. Influential in fostering teambuilding and teamwork in an atmosphere that’s highly competitive for resources. Ability to create and sustain a sense of urgency for improvements. Demonstrated track record of meeting/exceeding KPIs. Demonstrated track record of coaching and developing top talent. Strong financial and analytical acumen. Strong knowledge of Quality Systems, including ISO-9001, and OSHA requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Acquisition integration experience is a plus.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, Industrial Management, Manufacturing Operations, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
Travel & Working Environment
Onsite requirement: Monday – Friday Up to 20% business travel
