We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Space Electronics Center team. As a Manufacturing Optimization Intern, you will play a key role in driving cost savings and performance improvements in our production processes. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with various teams, including engineering, quality, production, and supply chain management, to identify areas for improvement and implement changes that enhance our manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities:

- Review and analyze Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs) to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and implement design changes that reduce production costs and improve product quality
- Work with the quality team to identify and mitigate potential quality issues and implement corrective actions
Partner with production leadership to improve 6S initiatives and optimize shop floor layout
- Assist supply chain management in improving the delivery of parts to the production floor
- Collaborate with engineers and production technicians to improve tooling and processes on the production floor
- Work in various production areas, including:
-Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
-CCA Hand Assembly
-Select Solder
-Module Assembly
-Box Assembly
-Environmental and Functional Test
-Harness Assembly
-Participate in Operation Excellence Teams (OET) to drive continuous improvement initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program majoring in Aerospace, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related discipline that a focusses on Advanced Manufacturing curriculum
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and principles
- Ability to read and comprehend Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs)
- Willingness to work on a production floor and collaborate with various teams
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
- Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus
- Prefer a local resident of the Denver metropolitan area, with a permanent address within a 50-mile radius of the Lockheed Martin Space Waterton facility in Littleton, CO

Technical Skills:

- CAD software: Familiarity with CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA
- Programming languages: Basic understanding of programming languages, such as Python, C++, or Java
- Data visualization tools: Familiarity with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js

Certifications:

- Lean certification: Certification in Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean Six Sigma or Certified Lean Professional (CLP)
- Six Sigma certification: Certification in Six Sigma methodologies, such as White Belt, Yellow Belt, or Green Belt

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $20,904 - $61,672. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
