Operations Lead Machinery Engineer

Air Products has an immediate opportunity for a Lead Engineer - Machinery reporting from our office in LaPorte, TX, but not limited to: supporting the Greater Houston area /Texas locations. Travel to sites throughout region is required (~50%). This role will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance support and optimizations of rotating machinery within the Operations Machinery team. The machinery includes centrifugal, reciprocating and screw compressors, steam turbines, gas turbines, expanders, blowers, gearboxes, cooling towers, fin-fans and all types of pumps including cryogenic pumps.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Initiate and implement reliability and efficiency improvement initiatives and best practices.

Provide technical support and supervision in the overhaul of large rotating machinery.

Provide technical support in re-rate of existing machinery for plant optimization initiatives.

Troubleshoot machinery issues and failures starting with a review of operating trends, determining the appropriate inspection work scope and repair plan, and participating in the root cause analysis (RCA). 

Provide machinery training to operation and maintenance personnel.

Qualifications / Requirements:

 Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 Minimum of 10 years of experience in rotating equipment machinery design, application, engineering, and maintenance preferred.

Familiar with machinery vibration diagnostics skills and machinery troubleshooting skills.

Well versed with root cause analysis techniques.

Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions required.

Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.

Travel to sites throughout region is required (~50%)

Work Hours / Travel Requirements:

Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, on call 24/7 for remote plant support

Typical Hours: Business Hours, on call 24/7 for remote plant support.  This job will consist of working at the La Porte office, operating facilities, repair or vendor shops, etc.  Hours and schedule will vary based on planned and unplanned jobs. 

Onsite: Yes, as-needed to support troubleshooting and equipment overhauls.

Nights/Weekends/Holidays: Yes, with a backup engineer that supports this role. Ex: on vacation, something comes up and unavailable then we have a backup support plan.

Typical Travel: ~50%, not limited to, but mainly throughout Greater Houston area and Texas region, majority is driving distance.  Travel will consist of day trips to operating facilities and shops, as well as week-long trips for shorter duration field work. 

Typical Travel Locations outside of Texas: ex: California, Louisiana, Pennsylvania (HQ).
