The Operations Manager – Commercial Install leads all HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) installation projects, ensuring the successful execution of commercial and industrial systems. The position leverages extensive experience in HVAC systems, project management, and team leadership. Responsibilities include managing a team of installation managers, install technicians, and support team members to deliver exceptional customer service in a safe manner and ensure timely, cost-effective project completion. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Management

Develop staffing plans to ensure project demands are met and manage workforce allocation effectively. Lead a team of HVAC project managers, installers, and field technicians providing strategic direction and daily management of business priorities. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to improve team performance, skills, and efficiency.  Lead selection process activities for attracting candidates, interviewing, and the selection process. Define performance expectations and monitor performance feedback and evaluations provided to team members. Recommend professional training and support installation team member skills progression. Communicate company goals, policies, plans and priorities both formally and informally. Communicate with team to share information and best practices. Contribute to the completion of other key initiatives as assigned.

Project Management & Financial Oversight

Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of HVAC installation projects from initiation to completion. Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Coordinate with other departments, including project managers and procurement, to ensure project success. Review project specifications and provide technical expertise to resolve challenges that arise during installation. Manage project budgets and resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Monitor labor, material, and equipment costs, ensuring optimal resource utilization. Partner with the finance department to track project profitability and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Quality Control & Safety

Ensure compliance with all industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations. Conduct site inspections to verify the quality and safety of HVAC installations. Develop and implement quality control procedures to monitor the progress and outcome of installation work. Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all team members follow OSHA guidelines and company safety policies.

Client Relations & Customer Service

Maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction and repeat business. Resolve any client concerns or issues related to HVAC installation in a timely and professional manner. Provide post-installation support, including troubleshooting and addressing service-related inquiries.

Operational Efficiency and Continuous Improvement

Implement and refine processes to increase operational efficiency and reduce downtime. Monitor and assess performance metrics, making adjustments as necessary to improve team productivity and project outcomes. Ensure all tools, equipment, and vehicles are maintained and properly serviced. Maintain current knowledge of the latest HVAC technologies, trends, and industry regulations. Implement new methods and technologies to improve installation processes, energy efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction. Lead initiatives to continuously improve the department's operational efficiency and effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management or related field or equivalent work experience. Minimum 8 years' experience in HVAC installation with at least 4 years in a leadership/management role. Strong understanding of HVAC design, installation, and troubleshooting. Experience in managing large scale commercial and residential HVAC projects. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Strong project management abilities, including experience with scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, materials, and safety standards. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.  Proven success in building and maintaining positive relationships with external clients and internal team members. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Expert organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and excellence. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Proficiency with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Certifications

Relevant HVAC certifications (e.g., NATE, EPA Section 608, etc.) preferred. OSHA 30-hour certification (or willingness to obtain). Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
