POWDR is an adventure lifestyle company that inspires every human being with cool experiences in awesome places. Within POWDR’s portfolio are seven mountain resorts including Copper Mountain and Eldora Mountain Resort in Colorado; Boreal Mountain Resort and Soda Springs in the Lake Tahoe region of California; Mt. Bachelor in Oregon, Snowbird in Utah and SilverStar Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada.  Included in the POWDR portfolio, is Stovepipe Wells located in Death Valley National Park, operated under a long-term concessions contract with the National Park Service.

Zion Lodge is in National Register of Historic Places designed in 1924 by Gilbert Stanley Underwood in the National Park Service rustic style. The Zion Lodge is a year-round operation with 76 hotels rooms, 6 suites and 40 cabins as well as a restaurant, outside grab and go café, bar, gift shop and auditorium space. In the year 2025 a coffee and wine bar will be opening.

Zion Lodge is a welcoming, safe, and environmentally responsible resort providing accommodations and services inside Zion National Park. Over the next few years, the resort will undergo upgrades to rejuvenate accommodations and dining for public enjoyment. Renewable energy projects and energy efficiency upgrades will also be completed as well as other Sustainability innovations. POWDR operates Zion Lodge under a long-term concession contract with the National Park Service.

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager at Zion Lodge holds a multifaceted role with hands-on responsibility for overseeing lodging staffing, operations, sales, front desk communications, guest relations, and interactions with the National Park Service (NPS). The ideal candidate will implement standards across Environmental, Safety, and Quality (ESQ), the Parks Play Forever initiative, emergency response, and overall service quality. This position motivates and inspires the team to deliver exceptional service, drive sales, and achieve revenue goals while cultivating a safe, friendly, and enjoyable work environment that embraces outdoor adventure and environmental stewardship.

The Operations Manager provides strategic oversight for lodging, offering guidance and direction as needed while liaising daily with the team and nurturing relationships that exemplify the company culture at Zion Lodge. Effective communication and frequent updates with the General Manager, Human Resources Manager, and other department managers and supervisors are essential for this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:        

Leadership and Management:

Lead the management teams of Lodging, Retail, Food & Beverage (F&B), and Housekeeping.

Manage labor, payroll, and expenses to meet annual budgetary goals.

Maintain organized and attractive front desk operations, collaborating on creative displays.

Promote innovations and improvements that enhance interpretive elements of ESQ, Play Forever, and NPS cultural, historical, and natural resources.

Operational Oversight:

Ensure the accurate functionality of reservations systems, managing room assignments and technology.

Execute emergency, safety, and response plans, engaging all staff in training and emergency drills.

Procure necessary supplies for front desk operations and business needs.

Reconcile sales reporting and ensure fiscal accountability.

Oversee Lost and Found in accordance with NPS policies and procedures.

Manage group sales bookings and ensure optimal housekeeping standards for cleanliness.

Communicate issues to the maintenance team regularly.

Housekeeping:

Oversee the team's performance in cleaning and housekeeping duties, ensuring sanitation and tidiness throughout the facility, including guest rooms, restrooms, dining areas, and common spaces.

Ensure housekeeping staff adheres to cleaning protocols, including dusting, sanitizing, vacuuming, and stocking supplies.

Address and report any maintenance issues identified during room cleaning.

Guest Relations:

Answer guest inquiries in a friendly and accommodating manner.

Ensure all staff are dressed in clean, pressed uniforms with nametags and appropriate footwear.

Maintain positive vendor and supplier relationships for lodging-related services.

Compliance and Training:

Document and report on various compliance matters, including Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and work orders for repairs.

Lead ISO ESQ system audits, compliance efforts, and mentoring of the management team to meet required standards.

Collaborate with Human Resources to train and develop all department staff, ensuring excellent customer service and efficiency.

Communication and Collaboration:

Maintain regular communication with the General Manager and Site Leadership Team to align on operational updates and strategic initiatives.

Prepare for NPS evaluations and inspections, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Act as Emergency Manager on duty when assigned, ensuring efficient communication and transparency.

Additional Duties:

Participate in National Park Service partner meetings, discussing agenda items and following up on action items.

Engage in continuous improvement of ESQ standards and initiatives, demonstrating commitment to sustainability and quality.

Ensure job safety and hazard analysis is conducted regularly, and that staff are trained in emergency procedures.

Work Location:

Due to the in-person nature of the hospitality business housing will be provided on-site and commuting from a local residence in the vicinity is acceptable.

Due to the nature of our business, Zion Lodge is open every day, 24 hours a day. You must be prepared to work a schedule which may include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Able to work and thrive in Zion National Park.

Ability to lead Lodging, Retail, F&B, and Housekeeping requirements and compliance with our concessions contract.

Technical skills utilizing cloud-based databases, POS and inventory systems, etc.

Establish successful working relationships with co-workers, Park Service and the public.

Use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making. 

Interact with the public and stakeholders in a professional manner and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Is creative and has an eye for merchandising technique.

Promotes fun and has a dynamic, energetic, and positive personality that can connect with staff.

Is organized, can multitask, and oversee projects through to completion in a timely manner.

Ability to lift 15 lbs. for various office supplies, equipment, arranging furniture for meetings, etc. 

Conducts new hire/recurrent department training and develops new processes/content.

Minimum two years working in Hospitality Management Operations with some Retail exposure.

High school diploma and four-year college degree required.

Current CPR w/AED and First Aid medical certification is required and certification is provided on-the-job upon hire

EMT-B Certification preferred

All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available in the Employee Handbook).

Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.
