Operations Manager

Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) first opened its doors in 1924 and ever since we’ve been independently testing and reviewing products and services to find the very best. Our mission is — and has always been — to help consumers spend money wisely, on products we know they’ll love and that will work for them. Each day new tests are published online and every month in the Good Housekeeping magazine.

Today, at the GHI's state-of-the-art testing facilities in Feltham, West London, our specialist team tests thousands of products a year across four key categories: homes, beauty, health and leisure, and food and drink.
 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The business has experienced impressive growth in recent years and is looking for Operations Manager to take full ownership of a busy operations function with a self-sufficient and strategic approach by maximise productivity, minimising cost and maintain quality through effective management of their team.

We are looking for someone who has proven ability in building and leading high performing teams with exceptional project management skills.  An ambitious mindset with a real knack for problem solving and ensuring that processes run smoothly, efficiently and in alignment with business objectives. 

You will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Homes product testing team, across the site. 

You will be responsible for delivery of product testing, upload results into the product database and query management from the other teams that form the GHI and that rely on the delivery of testing results. 

Key Responsibilities:

Take full ownership of the Homes testing department operations function and remain accountable for the Homes team testing output  Running day to day operation on site – responsible for developing detailed test plans, including setting deadlines for team tasks to promote accountability and deliver agreed product tests a month  You will be responsible for training the team to carry out tests correctly, measure results accurately and ensure that they are testing the products efficiently Experience of driving teams through constant improvement and change by building a positive and productive work culture to drive business results would b Develop and implementing effective Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement  Work closely with respective departments and editorial members to ensure full visibility and transparency of all live work, testing status and upcoming deadlines Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure operational excellence Seamlessly move between projects while handling multiple competing deadlines Driving continuous improvement activities and working alongside the Head of Testing to review strategic developments for the business's long-term success  You will be expected to test products alongside the team during peak times

 

ABOUT YOU

Successful candidates will have a strong operational background and a proven ability in leading and developing teams  Strong communication skills  Strong Project management skills  A working knowledge of production planning and efficiency optimisation  Experience in managing departmental budgets  A continuous improvement mindset  A determination to succeed, improve with excellent problem-solving skills  The ability to work under pressure and to tight planning schedules Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a clear and sustained attention to detail  Experienced in various styles of leadership from coaching to directive styles as appropriate. Stakeholder relationship Management – (internal / external)  Collaboration with wider business areas  A deep interest in how products work, reflected in a passion for innovation and ‘what’s new’. Especially in areas such as: large and small domestic appliances, household cleaning products, gardening, home renovation and smart home products.
