Summary This position is being filled under Direct-Hire Auth (Certain DoD Personnel), PL 118-31, Sec 1250B(i)(2), 12/22/2023. This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will will perform professional and scientific work requiring the design, development, and adaptation of mathematical, statistical, and other scientific methods and techniques and provides advice and insight about the probable effects of alternative courses of action. Responsibilities This position is being filled under Direct-Hire Auth (Certain DoD Personnel), PL 118-31, Sec 1250B(i)(2), 12/22/2023. As a OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST at the GS-1515-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Performs a broad range of operations research analyses assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and/or new technologies Utilizes scientific inquiry in the independent development of mathematical models and computer programs to evaluate and predict the ability to support assigned projects, studies, or problems. Provides technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance on an entire project and/or major phases for broad and varied operations. Utilizes mathematical and statistical techniques, elements of operations research theory, engineering knowledge and innovative efforts to develop new solutions to previously highlighted and/ or new problems or problems which may be totally lacking in precedent. Responsible for defining problems and developing and coordinating study plans; determining sources of data and sample sizes; planning, designing and conducting tests to obtain data, and compiling, organizing, and analyzing data. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You may qualify at the GS -13 , if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as listed below: Experience using research techniques and concomitant ability to obtain information concerning subject studies to perform sound analyses. Experience using advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of operations research and related sciences and disciplines. Experience designing, building, and using very complex, sophisticated models to simulate real-world environments containing many variables. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1515, series as listed below: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
