The Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for the Safety, Quality, and cost Effectiveness of the maintenance and manufacturing operations in his/her area.  The Operations Shift Supervisor will also serve as Incident Commander or Incident Operations during a plant incident.  The Operations Shift Supervisor operates as the site leader on off shifts and weekends. Operations Shift Supervisors must ensure that all employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their assignments.  They must provide the proper equipment, materials, and directions to accomplish maintenance and production goals.

Operations Shift Supervisors must ensure that all employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their assignments.  They must provide the proper equipment, materials, and directions to accomplish maintenance and production goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Enforce all work rules and policies of the St. Louis Plant. Ensure compliance with government agencies for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) as applicable for production  (.i.e. OSHA, FDA, DEA, DOT, EPA, and any others that may apply). Safety: Obey all safety rules and ensure everyone else complies fully. Schedule operator and mechanic assignments based on their training. Troubleshoot problems with equipment and enter work requests for maintenance.Issue all permits needed to ensure work can be done safely (pipe breaking, lockout/tag out, hot work, and tank entry).  Inspect readiness for maintenance. Approve operators and mechanics time worked in the KRONOS system and send exceptions to payroll department for correction. Coordinate with Process Engineers to accomplish goals of improved production, quality, and yields.Serve as the site leader on off shifts and weekends and Incident Commander or Incident Operations role in the incident command structure.       

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field highly preferred

First Responder Qualified or ability to become qualified

Incident Commander certified or ability to become certified

Experience:

Minimum of five years manufacturing experience and two years supervisory experienceFirst Responder Qualified or ability to become qualifiedIncident Commander certified or ability to become certified

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Knowledge of chemical manufacturing and plant support systemsExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenExcellent leadership skillsKnowledge of regulatory requirements (EPA, OSHA, FDA)Knowledge of Plant maintenance systems and practices

Skills/Competencies:

Thorough understanding of cGMP’sGood problem solving skillsMechanical Knowledge of Production EquipmentKnowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Tools would be a plusKnowledge and experience in the incident command structure (NIMS qualified)Motivating othersManagerial courage

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.  Direct reports are Production Operators and mechanics. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

The Operations Shift Supervisor will work primarily in a manufacturing environment on a night shift schedule.  Manufacturing areas are not climate controlled.  During summer months, building exhaust fans provide ventilation.  Chemicals handled include acids and bases, organic solvents, and inorganic compounds.  Chemicals may have characteristic odors or hazardous properties that require special handling.
