The Operations Specialist will primarily be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of natural gas compressor units, onsite power generation units, related ancillary equipment, and pipeline facilities. The reporting location will be the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Compressor Station 254 Nassau, NY. The successful candidate will be a strong team contributor with a proactive approach to balance planned and emergent work. Our Operations Specialists are responsible for operating, performing routine service and maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing reciprocating gas compressor engines, electric motors, generators, cooling towers, pumps, valves, valve operators, relief valves, etc. Responsibilities also include performing operation and maintenance tasks on pipelines and pipeline related equipment. Additional responsibilities include: Maintain and contribute to the safe operation of Company assets Train and qualify to complete relevant DOT covered tasks Start, stop and operate engines to maintain designated operating parameters and meet customer demands Identify facility and equipment malfunctions and take immediate corrective action when safe to repair Follow developed job procedures, site specific work plans and O&M policy and identify areas for procedural improvements Ensure the cost effective operation and efficient performance of all engines and associated equipment Continuously review facility operations and adjust for optimization Complete general upkeep, housekeeping and maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including remote locations Lead pipeline pigging activities for maintenance and assist with ILI Complete detailed reports and documentation for record keeping Maintenance and perform limited repairs to facility equipment (e.g., wheeled tractors, pick-up trucks, fork lifts, pneumatic pumps, air compressors, coolers) Communicate articulately with work group, service providers and larger audiences Perform one-call locates and pipeline damage prevention activities Must live within a 30 minute response/travel time to work location · Call out is required for nights and weekends Our Operations Specialists come to Kinder Morgan from a variety of backgrounds, job titles, Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) and Career Management Fields (CMF). Position Requirements Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with minimum supervision Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives Computer skills in common programs (MS Office) and willingness to learn various operating systems, and other company software Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals) Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisors or senior peers and contribute to a collaborative goal Accept mentoring and mentor peers when working in teams Strong verbal and written communication skills Required to perform on-call / call out duties and fill in various rotating shifts to maintain system integrity. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company Overtime and work after regular business hours is anticipated Keep required job schedule, focus on details, and follow work rule Experience Requirements: Knowledge of gas compressor and transmission pipeline systems operations Knowledge of operating costs and best practices associated with natural gas pipeline equipment Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and other diagrams Knowledge and experience in safe work practices when working around high pressure systems Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices, and regulatory and tariff requirements Physical Requirements: Physical ability to lift as much as 50lbs, bend/stoop, kneel and climb stairs/ladders Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion included The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
