Operations Supervisor

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Marine Terminal Operations Manager. 

The Operations Supervisor manages four shift teams to produce on spec products in a safe, reliable and profitable manner.

She/he applies established systems to meet the Operation plans safely. In this respect, the operations Supervisor acts as the bridge between plant operations and the Economics & Scheduling team during daytime routine activities.

The Operations Supervisor is also responsible for the management of the  maintenance activities such that the operational requirements for optimum plant availability are met whilst achieving desired maintenance efficiency.

To effectively manage the maintenance and operations interface to ensure successful execution of the Maintenance Execution process. 


Key Accountabilities/Objectives:

Ensures safe, reliable and profitable operation of the Terminal, by focusing the teams on “keeping it in the pipe” and “working to limits” (process safety, production and quality).  Possess high level of knowledge about terminal operations and integration to provide troubleshooting expertise and operational support to the shift teams. Must be able to work effectively across disciplines. Ensure compliance of Operations Unit with legislative requirements (e.g. OHS Act, License to Operate), HSSE policies and procedures. Manage operational risks by ensuring that all risks are identified, analyzed and mitigated to ALARP. Seek continual improvement in Operations through risk management systems (e.g. HSE/HEMP, human performance factors, asset integrity, company reputation). Mentors and coaches Team Leaders and operations staff, ensuring a high standard of shift competence. This includes the effective application of “Learning from Incidents” (LFI) principles.  Cultivating a positive spirit in the operations team, the Operations Supervisor ensures the key values of SAPREF are understood and applied within the shift team.  Identify areas in the terminal requiring improvement, develop and execute improvement plans and initiatives.  Works with Finance Focal points in the development of the annual budget for variable costs.  Ensuring availability of the terminal operation and equipment by prioritizing and removing threats within schedule.  Ensure operations planning supports the implementation of plant change requests, projects, technical reviews, audits and causal learning recommendations. Protecting people from the process is a key accountability for the Operations Supervisor. The Operations Supervisor Leads compliance and adherence to procedures within the terminal.   Lead during terminal operation during abnormal conditions (incl. but not limited to emergencies, process upsets, audits, process reviews).  Manages employees and business partners. Maintaining harmonious relationships and ensure regular feedback with staff. Ensure financial management within the Terminal Operations Unit.
