As a member of a shift team, operate and monitor the chemical production activities in the plant and ensuring that the product is manufactured within set production schedule and to the required standards of quality and cost effective manner. Troubleshoot and resolves technical problem when necessary.
ResponsibilitiesControl Room Operator Functions:
Set and adjust indicating, controlling, or timing devices, such as gauging instruments, thermostat, gas analyzers, or recording equipment Move controls to adjust feed and flow of liquids and gases through equipment in specified sequence. Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressure, and time of prescribed reaction, according to knowledge of equipment and processActivate pumps, agitators, reactors, blowers, or automatic feed of materialsMonitor gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, or product to regulate or maintain specified conditionsMix chemicals according to proportion tables or prescribed formulasRecord operational data such as temperature, pressure, ingredients used, processing time, or test results, in operating logRead, comprehend, and follow written and oral instructions, safety rules, operating procedures and product recipesUse a computer graphical interface to control Programmable Logic ControllerOperate or tend auxiliary equipment, such as heaters, scrubbers, filters, or driers, to prepare or further process materialsOperate and monitor utility systemReside as an active Emergency Response Team member
Field Operator Functions:
Operate valves and pumps to admit or drain specified amounts of materials, impurities, or treating agents to or from equipment Flush or clean equipment, using steam hose or mechanical reamer Draw samples of product and sends to laboratory for analysis Perform general clean up and maintain good housekeeping in order to keep working areas clean, organized, and safePatrol and inspect equipment or unit to detect leaks and malfunctions Weigh or measure specified amounts of materials Read, comprehend, and follow written and oral instructions, safety rules, operating procedures and product recipesUse a computer graphical interface to control Programmable Logic Controller Load and unload tank trucks and drums containing hazardous and non-hazardous materialsDump prescribed solid, granular, or powdered materials into equipment Perform incidental maintenance as required to troubleshoot processes and to keep processes running properlyLock out processing equipment to make sure maintenance can safely repair processing equipmentPerform laboratory analysis for waste water shipmentsTrain new Chemical Operators on job functionsReside as an active Emergency Response Team member QualificationsJob Requirements:
Minimum Nitec in Chemical Process
Able to communicate, read and write in English
Meticulous in nature and a fast learner
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and general computer knowledge
Physical Requirements:
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Full face respirator, half face respirator, safety glasses, steel to shoes, hard hat, and self-contained breathing apparatus)
Work Environment:
Some work is completed inside a climate controlled room; however work is frequently located outside in the elements
