Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Operations Technician for its Decatur, AL facility.

The Operations Technician will be responsible for operating, maintaining and troubleshooting processes and equipment in several facilities producing and shipping various industrial gases in the Decatur AL area, including two large Air Separation plants, and gas pipeline delivery systems.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include EH&S compliance, quality assurance, reliability, and cost control.Operations training and experience with chemical or industrial gas processes and equipment, including process control operations utilizing DCS systems.Experience in minor maintenance functions with mechanical, electrical, and instrument systems. Applicable degrees, certifications or other training considered a plus.Administrative skills to function effectively in computer based systems such as SAP, Windows/Office, and other computer applications.A self starter who effectively manages their time to identify the necessary tasks and deliver results with minimal supervision.Ability to collect and analyze data, while utilizing a systematic approach to reach conclusions and make appropriate decisions.Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with technical and administrative support functions across various company locations.Utilize and maintain standardized policies and procedures to optimize safety, quality and costs.This is a safety sensitive position.

Required Skills / Abilities: 

Strong mechanical, instrument and electrical proficiency is desired.Candidates with a background in pumps, mechanical seals, vessels, exchangers, gear drives, compressors, rotating equipment, and/or Electrical/Instrumentation knowledge is a plus.Validated commitment to safety and continuous improvementPosition may require weekends and on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone.Candidates with a background in plant/refinery instrumentation and electrical systems is strongly preferred.Computer skills including Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.Elevated work required.

 Education and Licensing Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED.Certificate in process technology or maintenance field (preferred) or 3 years minimum in a manufacturing/production, processing or chemical/ petrochemical environment. Participants in Skills USA are encouraged to apply.Technical School Graduates:

Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive

Technology, HVAC, Process Technology, Electrical Technology,

Work Hours & Benefits:

The working hours for this position are primarily M-F Day Shift, but require flexibility for some nights/weekend on-call or plant outage work.Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone on nights, weekends, and holidays.
