JOB SUMMARY
\nThe Ophthalmic Technician 1 is responsible for performing a variety of skilled duties associated with the eye. This position assists the physician while serving as an integral member of the health care team in the treatment and care of ocular health.
\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
\n\nInitiates and performs documentation of the patient's chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history and review of systems and pertinent ocular findings, accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.\nPerforms testing to include visual acuity measurement, lensometry, testing pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, confrontation visual field testing and other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist.\nPerforms refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription.\nPerforms various specialty testing ordered by physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), color vision testing, and other tests as directed.\nAssists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including prepping patients for sterile procedures.\nEducates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician.\nHandles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely.\nAdministers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician.\nOpens and closes exam lanes ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected, battery-powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, and lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.\n\nKEY SUCCESS FACTORS
\n\nBasic understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.\nOutstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance.\nMust be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients.\nRequires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks.\nMust maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.\nBasic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.\n\nBENEFITS

\n\nEDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent\nEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience\n
