JOB SUMMARY
\n\nThe Ophthalmic Technician 1 is responsible for performing a variety of skilled duties associated with the eye. This position assists the physician while serving as an integral member of the health care team in the treatment and care of ocular health.
\n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
\n\n\n\tInitiates and performs documentation of the patient's chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history and review of systems and pertinent ocular findings, accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.\n\tPerforms testing to include visual acuity measurement, lensometry, testing pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, confrontation visual field testing and other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist.\n\tPerforms refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription.\n\tPerforms various specialty testing ordered by physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), color vision testing, and other tests as directed.\n\tAssists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including prepping patients for sterile procedures.\n\tEducates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician.\n\tHandles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely.\n\tAdministers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician.\n\tOpens and closes exam lanes ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected, battery-powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, and lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.\n\n\nKEY SUCCESS FACTORS
\n\n\n\tBasic understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.\n\tOutstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance.\n\tMust be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients.\n\tRequires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks.\n\tMust maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.\n\tBasic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.\n\n\nBENEFITS

\n\n\n\tEDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent\n\tEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience\n
