The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Ophthalmic Technician 2 with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 assists the ophthalmologist by gathering basic data pertaining to the patient’s visual status and maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient, quality eye care. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 also performs appropriate clinical testing techniques to detect visual deficiencies.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care.
+ Provides patient-centric care.
+ Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.
+ Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
+ Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.
+ Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.
+ Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
+ Meets daily productivity goals.
+ Maintains JCAHPO certifications.
+ Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
+ Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.
+ Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.
+ Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.
+ Works evenings and weekends as needed.
+ Performs organizational duties as assigned.
+ Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.
+ Facilitates motility exams.
+ Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams.
+ Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams.
+ Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff.
+ Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives.
+ Acts as preceptor and trainer for team members.
+ Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Required Certification and Licensing:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
Experience:
2 years of relevant experience

+ Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform.
+ Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups.
+ Prepares patients for intravitreal injections.
+ Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office.
