\nJob Summary
\nThe Ophthalmic Technician 2 performs skilled duties related to the eye. This position assists the physician and is part of the health care team for ocular health.
\nEssential Functions of the Role
\n\nInitiates and documents the patient's chief complaint, history, and ocular findings accurately, following compliance guidelines.\nPerforms tests like visual acuity measurement, lensometry, pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, and confrontation visual field testing. Provides other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist.\nPerforms refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription.\nPerforms various specialty tests ordered by a physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), and color vision testing.\nAssists with minor surgeries, intraocular injections, and laser treatments. Prepares patients for sterile procedures in exam or treatment rooms.\nEducates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician.\nHandles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely.\nAdministers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician.\nOpens and closes exam lanes. Ensures equipment is cleaned and disinfected. Makes sure battery-powered instruments are seated in recharge wells. Turns off lamps and projectors and covers them.\n\nKey Success Factors
\n\nGeneral understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.\nOutstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance.\nMust be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients.\nRequires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks.\nMust maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.\nBasic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.\n\nBelonging Statement

Diploma/GED Equivalent\nEXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience\nCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -Cert Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Cert Ophtha Med Technologist (COMT), Cert Ophthalmic Tech (COT), Cert Retinal Angiographer (RA): Obtain one within 1 year of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)/Certified Retinal Angiographer (RA).\n
