University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support UPMC Vision Institute-Oakland located at 203 Lothrop Street 6th Floor Pittsburgh, PA 15213. This role will work Monday through Friday daylight hours as per clinical need between the hours of 7a-5p (no weekends or holidays). This role will require travel to satellite locations (Shadyside, Forbes, Monroeville, St. Margaret’s, Mercy, Wexford, Bethel Park, Natrona Heights) as needed for coverage (25% of the time) There are opportunities for growth and advancement within this position on the Ophthalmic Technician career ladder. **Responsibilities:** + Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to - + Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions + Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. + History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. + Lensometry: automated and manual + Angle assessment & dilation of pupils + Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. + Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields + Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test + Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus + Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of + Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity + Assisting with in-baskets, patient messages, voicemails, scrubbing schedules in preparation of upcoming appointments, etc., and other administrative duties as assigned under the direction of the Lead Coordinator/Practice Manager + When needed, candidate will perform imaging requested by physicians (HVF, OCT, Fundus Photos, Slit Lamp Photos, A-scans (automatic and manual), Pentacam). + High school diploma or equivalent is required. + Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. + Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Valid CPR certification + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 34 **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran** UPMC has a Center for Engagement and Inclusions that is charged with executing leading-edge and next- generation diversity strategies to advance the organization’s diversity management capability and its national presence as a diversity leader.
