Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Scribe/Tech  position allows you to work daily while providing direct hands-on care to our patients and physicians.  Our clinical staff report high levels of satisfaction with their roles at Central Florida Eye Specialists because they get to play a vital role in helping save peoples sight each and every day.  Though the days may be long and busy, we find the results to be well worth the effort. 

 

Our ophthalmic technicians and scribes gather information from patients, take images, notate information into patient charts, and help set up for exams and treatments, document the physician dictated patient encounter - and so much more!  This position is great for those interested in veterinary technician, medical assistant, behavioral technician, phlebotomist, radiology technician and more.  We will train the right candidate.

History takingVisual acuity measurementRefractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)Tonometry (measure eye pressure)Measure pupil size and reactivityTest and measure eye muscle functionVisual field testingCorneal thickness measurementCorneal curvature measurementCorneal topographyRetinal nerve fiber layer measurementRetinal thickness and topographyFluorescein angiographyA and B-scan ultrasonographyAssist with contact lens fitting, and patient instructionPrepare for and assist with in-office proceduresSurgical assisting

Required Qualifications:

Medical work experience NOT required, but it can increase your starting rate Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamworkStrong interpersonal skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor)Able to work long and irregular hours, and travel to different locations based on clinic needsAbility to master ophthalmology terminologyRequired to have reliable transportation between local clinics during the workday (mileage is reimbursed)High School Graduate

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in a busy optometry, ophthalmology and/or retina clinicCOA, COT, or COMT certification Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Demands:

Ability to view patient images and operate computer devicesAbility to converse with patients - speaking and hearingFrequent use of a computer, keyboard, and mouseNear constant standing and walkingManual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment
