Ophthalmologist: Glaucoma Specialist
**Overview** **The Beetham Eye Institute of the Joslin Diabetes Center is seeking to recruit an Ophthalmologist: Glaucoma Specialist** to provide strong glaucoma surgical expertise and expert clinical eye care for Beetham Eye Institute (BEI), Joslin Diabetes Center patients. Beth Israel Lahey Health requires that all staff be vaccinated against influenza (flu) and COVID-19 as a condition of employment._ **Responsibilities** + Operates on patients with surgical glaucoma disease, including but not limited to trabeculectomy, tube or shunt implants, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. + Performs procedures, including intravitreal injections and lasers on patients for indications including but not limited to argon laser trabeculoplasty, selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser peripheral iridotomy. + Performs cataract surgery for patients with visually significant cataracts. + Participates in Longwood Medical Area call and provides emergency care as needed for urgent glaucoma cases. + Performs comprehensive ophthalmic examinations for diabetic and non-diabetic patients. + Examines patients' eyes to ensure eye health and recommends appropriate treatment and follow-up. + Prescribes glasses to correct vision. + Provides emergency care and triages ophthalmic care as needed. + Interacts in a collegial way with medical staff and colleagues. + Participates in referral development. + Works in a collegial fashion with other Joslin diabetes health professionals. + Interacts collegially with BEI medical retina fellows, research staff, and research fellows. + Other duties as assigned. **Qualifications** + Degree in medicine from an accredited school + Certified license to practice in Massachusetts + Residency inOphthalmology + Fellowship in glaucoma + Minimum 3 years of general ophthalmology experience (including residency) + Minimum 1 year of glaucoma surgery experience (includesfellowship) + Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Ophthalmology + Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to interact with peers and staff, fiscal and operational aspects of administrative responsibilities such as ensuring accountability in clinical and scholarly activities, staff development and budget management. + Effective communication skills are needed to share information and influence other investigators and internal/external colleagues as well as to mentor and develop medical staff, fellows and students. + Articulate both verbally and in writing with regard to evidence-based clinical diabetes eye care.
