Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position involves professional nursing work in a busy integrated clinic setting within the Medical Services section of the Okaloosa County Health Department (OCHD). Nursing duties are provided primarily in the immunization clinic, using standing orders and policies under the direction of the MD, PA, ARNP. Position serves both the Fort Walton Beach and Crestview clinic facilities. Work is performed with exceptional customer service and effective communication with both clients and all other clinic staff.
Nursing duties performed include administration of childhood immunizations, obtaining a health history, providing health education, and performing basic nursing assessments. Completes documentation of vaccines in FL Shots immunizations registry.
Works primarily in the immunization clinic administering vaccines for children and occasionally adults. Reviews health history and intake questionnaire to determine if client(s) should receive vaccinations. Recommends vaccines based on age and minimum dose intervals. Takes advantage to vaccinate when clients are present to prevent missed opportunities. Reviews Vaccine Information Sheets (VIS) with parents or clients and answers questions. Completes inventory usage document by completing vaccine counts at the end of each day. Acts as a champion for vaccine administration and advocates to decrease vaccine preventable diseases.
Follows established policies and protocols. Coordinates using HMS and documents interventions in the electronic health record. Follows established policies and standing operation procedures. Communicates in a pleasant and professional manner to the client and staff.
Observes patient symptoms, and reactions to all treatments. Provides documentation and updates in the medical record in a clear and legible manner. Provides education and counseling to the client or the clients parents that is appropriate for his/her understanding. Works in collaboration with other members of the health care team to provide quality care in an effective manner, which meets the client’s health care needs. Serves as a resource to other staff and the community. Makes referrals and follows up with actions as directed by provider.
Participates in training, workshops, in services, conferences, staff meetings and other activities related to public health. Participates in cross training and staff development activities, for the purpose of career development.
Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision.
Qualifications:
+ Must have current Florida Nursing License or multistate license from another Compact State

Where You Will Work:
Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County - Position is assigned to the Fort Walton Beach clinic location, and will work at the Crestview clinic location as necessary.
