The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) is searching for an Optical Design Engineer to join our Electro-Optics (EO) Research Team in Dayton, OH. The successful candidate will utilize a strong engineering or physics background designing, testing, modeling, simulating, and analyzing the next generation of optical systems for space-based applications.
This position will support multiple aspects of the design and manufacturing process of optical lens systems. Addressing our customers’ challenging mission requirements necessitates critical thinking and complex problem solving. The successful candidate will be called upon to develop new and innovative solutions to challenging optical design problems. The engineer will work as part of an integrated team but should also be proficient at working independently.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, analyze, and improve optical system designs in Zemax OpticStudio, Code-V, or equivalentDesign and execute optical system and component testingIn-depth understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts related to optical designPerform analysis of data sets and develop tools for visualization and manipulation of the dataLead work of other technical staff with significant impact on project results and impactWork well in a small team environmentBe familiar with Linux, Windows, MS Office tools like PowerPoint and Excel, MATLABPresent project results to internal team for reviews, customers, and at workshops / conferencesBasic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline (optical, engineering physics, or similar) or physics with 12+ years of experience or Masters degree with 10+ years of experience12+ years experience designing lens systemsMust be a US citizenMust be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearanceExperience with optical design, broadband light sources, electro-optics, detectors, cameras, calibration equipment, and diagnostic equipmentMATLAB and/or Python programming experienceOptical design software experience (e.g. Zemax, Code-V, etc.)Can communicate results to executive leadership, internal or customerPreferred Qualifications
