Optical Design Engineer
Introduction to the job

ASML is relentlessly driving the semiconductor industry’s ongoing quest for producing faster, smarter and more energy efficient chips. At the illumination group we’re at the core of this quest with the responsibility to illuminate the reticle image such that the best projection onto the wafer can be achieved.

As such the illumination group has a high level of interaction with key stake holders such as Zeiss (producer of the optical hardware), marketing, system engineering and  customer service as well as regular interaction with customers. We are a young, dynamic, international and highly skilled workforce creating, with strong support of our suppliers, the lithographic tools the industry needs to achieve its goals.

Roles and responsibilities

Your responsibility is to take ownership of a project deliverable and drive that towards completion. This includes documentation, specification, qualification & integration as well as issue handling and supporting customer specific requests. In order to fulfill this role, you need to align within in the team on technical aspects, scope, planning and progress. Also, you need to collaborate with different competences and sectors (systems engineering, marketing and customer support) within ASML. Using your technical knowledge, analytical thinking and people skills, you will work closely together with the project team and with interfacing projects and sectors.

The job consists of

Acquiring knowledge on the relationship between illumination optics and the imaging performance of the entire system in support of the customer use case optimization.

Contribute to troubleshooting and solving issues with the installed base systems in the field. This involves analyzing data from systems worldwide, and also designing, executing and analyzing system tests. You connect the results to physical phenomena, and steer towards the proper solution directions.  

Contribute, in a team, to the development of new optical solutions.

Specify, design, support implementation, qualify and integrate those solutions.

Working in a multi-disciplinary project and collaborate with supplier, marketing, factory and customer support teams.

Education & Experience

BSc, or MSc in engineering or physics with knowledge of optical systems

Experience with working in teams in a multi-disciplinary environment is needed.

3 to 5 year work experience in an industrial environment is preferred.

Skills

You are curious and eager to understand complex functionality of the module to be able to troubleshoot, improve and plan a roadmap

Affinity with working a multidisciplinary environment related to complex systems.

Contributions to optical systems, their performance qualification, and applications of optical systems is preferred.

Affinity with mathematical optimization techniques and modeling is required, together with Matlab and/or python skills.

Ability to think on a functional level and in design details.

Ability to integrate and troubleshoot functions in complex systems.

Ability to explain a complex technical topic in a concise clear manner to technical experts.

Team player with ability to build network towards other parts of the ASML organization.

Self-propelling, showing initiative and drive, pragmatic attitude.

Experience with the ASML product development way of working is a plus.

Good practice of Matlab / programming is required. Ability to write scripts and to discuss solutions and issues with SW engineers and modelers.

Context of the position

Within ASML, the Sector Development and Engineering (D&E) is responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of integrated solutions that meet business requirements. This responsibility also includes the specification of trade-offs across sectors.

The department DE EUV Optical Column is responsible for delivery of the projection, illumination, dose control, and EUV light collection functions for the EUV machines. The department develops technical solutions, means and methods and competences to ensure these deliveries in all the different product phases.

This position is reporting into the EUV Optical Column - Illumination Group.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
