Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** The NSF-OPAL team at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics seeks a Senior Optical Engineer to support the design of NSF OPAL, a new state-of-the art laser user facility with two new 25-PW lasers coupled to OMEGA EP to achieve and study extreme physical conditions. The candidate will be help evolve this project from conceptual design to final design. This position is in the Compression and Transport sub-system, involving the conditioning, transport, focusing, and diagnosis of meter-scale beams. Creates systems that manipulate and control light. Works on a wide range of applications, from designing lenses for cameras to developing cutting-edge optical technologies for various industries, including telecommunications, healthcare, and aerospace. Ensures optical systems meet specific performance and quality standards.
