Apple is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead overall investigation on sophisticated optical films to support Display products roadmap development. You will work with both suppliers and internal diverse multi-functional teams at Apple to craft the hardware technologies that go into Apple products. The team features a diverse engineering roster including optical engineers, materials engineers, mechanical engineers, chemists, physicists, human perception experts, and product design engineers. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self-motivated. A successful candidate needs to be a flexible thinker and be able to problem solve alongside a team with diverse multi-functional abilities.DescriptionDescription- Investigate and develop optical thin films, coatings and optical polymer materials - Identify areas where optical coatings and films can improve display performance and customer experience, then design solutions to implement into Apple products - Work with vendors to identify and modify key materials that can enable new optical technologies - Take total ownership to drive technologies from R&D to implementation on real products with multi-functional teams - Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 15%Minimum QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Optics, Engineering Physics, Physics with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experienceTechnical experience in polymer chemistry, polymer films and optical materialsExperience with thin films, coating processes, optical & material characterization, surface and interfacial science, and/or material chemistryExperience working with polymer synthesis, formulation development of aqueous/non aqueous coatings, formulation characterization methods or corresponding wet deposition techniquesExperience in design of experiments and corresponding statistical data analysisKey QualificationsKey QualificationsPreferred QualificationsPreferred QualificationsMaster's or Ph.D. degree in relevant field.Demonstrated ability to solve complex material and interface challenges in a manufacturing settingExpertise in surface and interface analysis, characterization, failure analysis, etc.Outstanding written and oral communication skills in EnglishDemonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multi-functional teamHands-on experience and consistent track record in relevant areas in optical films, polymer films, coatings & materials, sophisticated process technology development, and associated equipmentExperience leading domestic and international vendorsKnowledgeable of thin film deposition and corresponding metrology methods (ex. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
