The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
Position Summary:
Grind, polish, and figure various optical materials to specified tolerances based on manufacturing instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Grind, polish, and figure various optical materials to specified tolerances. Operate machines and conduct hand operations on optical surfaces. Take measurements on metrology systems such as interferometers, profilometers and microscopes Cleaning, handling, and packaging of precision optical components. Perform calculations, quality tests, measurements, and inspections. Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions to aid in processing optical materials. Assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency. Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements. Clean machinery and maintain cleanliness of the work area
Working Conditions:
Lifting 30 lbs. daily Daily Standing 50% of shift Wearing protective gloves, glasses, and safety shoes; Exposure to Chemicals: Toluene, Acetone, Alcohol, and OMS Exposure to materials: Aluminum, Nickel, Zinc Sulfide, Zinc Selenide, Germanium, Indium arsenide and Silicon Polymers.
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent Two-year technical degree preferable. 1 to 3 years optics or polishing experience Blueprint and technical specification knowledge Ability to see and evaluate optical surfaces. Demonstrated computer and mathematics skills.

The range for this position is $24.50 hourly rate - $28.75 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
