Job Title: Optomechanical EngineerJob Description We are seeking an Optomechanical Engineer responsible for all optical aspects of product development. This includes feasibility studies, design, testing, lab setup, data acquisition, data analysis, and evaluations for prototype and production hardware. You will prepare specifications, test plans, detailed work instructions, procedures, and technical data packages. Additionally, you will assist with troubleshooting design or fabrication problems with opto-mechanical sub-systems in production, perform prototype design, assembly, and tests, and provide documentation support. You must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with the R&D team. Responsibilities + Conduct feasibility studies, design, testing, lab setup, data acquisition, data analysis, and evaluations for prototype and production hardware. + Prepare specifications, test plans, detailed work instructions, procedures, and technical data packages. + Assist with troubleshooting design or fabrication problems with opto-mechanical sub-systems in production. + Perform prototype design, assembly, and tests. + Provide documentation support. + Work independently and collaboratively with the R&D team. Essential Skills + Experience with Zemax, optical design, Pro Engineer, SolidWorks, and spectroscopy. + Experience in testing. + Masters or BA degree in engineering or a science-related field. + 3+ years of optics design experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in a scientific organization focusing on developing instruments for scientific research, specifically within fluorescent lighting. Work Environment This position is based in Piscataway with approximately 200 people at the location. You will be part of a group within retail that includes 5 developers and 1 tester. The work environment offers some flexibility to work from home on certain days, but you must be able to come to the office when necessary to work with the instruments. We foster a great, friendly culture and all contractors have transitioned to permanent roles after six months.
