Job Description:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville seeks to add a full-time faculty Optometrist to join our growing academic practice. Major responsibilities include providing excellence in patient care, teaching, and clinical research contributing to a diverse academic eye practice.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Conduct general eye exams within a comprehensive eye practice. Diagnose and treat ocular disease. Recommend appropriate patient follow-up and care options. Refer cases to ophthalmologists when needed. Participate in training of ophthalmology residents and technicians, regarding but not limited to refraction, contact lens, low vision and optics. Maintain electronic patient records Prescribe, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids. Perform pre-and post-operation checks Answer questions and provide advice to patients regarding vision and optical issues. Deliver outstanding customer service through all patient interactions. Optometrist will be responsible for the Optical Shop contact lens when services are added to department. Optometrist shall participate in third-party insurance panels identified by the organization and department. Practice optometrist shall see a mix of general ophthalmology cases, post-operative surgical patients, and refractive consults. Optometrist shall share responsibility for training and education of trainees and staff. Optometrist will be responsible for monthly medical reviews, as required by division of ambulatory services.

The Department consists of a small but growing group of talented ophthalmologists and optometrists, who offer a wide array of eye care services to the Jacksonville community. Our specialties include cornea and external disease, glaucoma, anterior segment surgery, diseases of the retina, uveitis, ocular tumors, oculoplastic and orbital surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, contact lenses, low vision and electrophysiology. We are a multi-specialty dual location academic practice with a robust clinical volume. The Department has its own ophthalmology-specific surgery center adjacent to its clinical offices.

The compensation structure is competitive and commensurate with all levels of experience.

Expected Salary:

Salary is based on experience with incentive plan and excellent benefit package.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program; Florida State Optometry License; Valid CPR certificate; Two –plus years of optometrist experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications: Applied understanding of general principles of eye care and best practices for the diagnosis and treatment of eye-related disorders and conditions Strong communication skills and ability to relate to patients of diverse backgrounds, including the ability to explain scientific information to patients. Excellent customer service skills Ability to maintain patient confidentiality General computer proficiency Demonstrated problem solving skills and multitasking ability Proficiency with modern eye care techniques and equipment Listening skills Attention to detail Special Instructions to Applicants:
