Venice Family Clinic is a leader in providing comprehensive, high-quality primary health care to people in need with compassion, dignity, and respect. In November 2021, Venice Family Clinic merged with South Bay Family Health Care, uniting more than a century of experience helping patients regardless of income, insurance, or immigration status. The organization now has more than 500 staff who serve 45,000 people from the Santa Monica Mountains through the South Bay. We have 17 locations plus 2 mobile clinics and an expansive street medicine program for people experiencing homelessness.
The Optometrist will provide professional optometric services at the Venice Family Clinic. The Optometrist reports to the Associate Medical Director and collaborates closely with other members of the Clinical Management Team. The Optometrist is expected to work independently, checking in with the Vision Services Coordinator as necessary and having regular meetings to coordinate and discuss goals and work issues.
Full Salary Range: 109,000 - 153,100
Qualifications
Possession of a license issued by the California State Board of Optometry to practice optometry
Verbal communication skills to clearly convey information to patients, students, faculty, and staff
Ability to speak Spanish such that an interpreter is not routinely needed during care
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the assigned tasks and responsibilities
Knowledge of medical problems of minority, medically underserved populations, and the and the homeless.
Skill in providing care in a high-volume clinic setting.
Write prescriptions for glasses for all patients who need them.
Obtain images on diagnostic equipment such as corneal topography, corneal tomography, specular microscopy, confocal microscopy, corneal pachymetry, anterior segment OCT, etc.
Ability to teach and supervise volunteers, residents and/or students.
Ability to work as a team with multi-disciplinary staff and providers.
Willingness to learn and fully utilize our Electronic Health Record to meet meaningful use requirements
Meet productivity goals as determined by the organization
Manage dermatology issues through evaluation with different diagnostic modalities
